This Grade II listed barn is close to a public right of way, perfect for keen walkers or wildlife enthusiasts.


The Briar is a converted semi-detached out building forming part of a Grade II barn, sitting in the heart of a working farm. The fields in front slope down to the River Ecclesbourne which is a designated special landscape area full of natural wildlife. From the front gate, a public right of way gives access to a countryside littered with footpaths to enjoy. A west facing lawn in front of the magnificent barn can be used to sit, relax and enjoy the views into the evening sunshine. The Briar is ideally situated for access to the Peak District and many other attractions, Chatsworth House is less than an hour away, Derby city can be reached in 20 minutes. A shop is within walking distance and a restaurant pub less than 2 miles. There is ample parking on the owners’ drive.

Ground floor: Living room with single (4ft) sofa bed, patio doors, sloping ceilings and wooden floor. First floor: Dining room with patio doors/kitchen with French doors and wooden floors. Shower room with toilet. Second floor: Galleried area with double bed, sloping ceilings and beams.

Partial convection heaters, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Private courtyard with patio, sitting-out area, furniture and use of owners’ lawn. Parking (2 cars). Welcome pack. No smoking. NB: 3 steps in garden. Fields to the front slope to the River Ecclesbourne.

    The briar is set in the most beautiful location. Easy check in with Pauline right next door, well equipped to cook like a home from home I enjoyed my weekend immensely coming from the city it was extremely relaxing

    Beautiful place with such lovely owners. My only "niggle" was the bedroom. The roofbeam was low and my husband was unable to get changed up there. However that being said I doubt it would stop us returning - it really was lovely!

    The views from the cottage were lovely and the layout was absolutely perfect for 2 people. Both nights we cooked in the kitchen with ease before watching a bit of TV and then heading to the local pub called the swan. It

    A warm and cosy cottage, beautifully decorated and designed. Very comfortable and within a reasonable driving distance of most visited towns in the area. Pleasant hosts too. Dog Fri endly pubs nearby.

    Nice quiet place and great little cottage, owners very welcoming and friendly, even a pints of milk in the fridge and some tea and coffee which was unexpected, overall greta place ti go for a break we both enjoyed it and ohhg so did the dog :-)

    Absolutely lovely. The owners are friendly and helpful, the cottage is clean and cosy and the surrounding area is beautiful and a great to explore.
