Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Description

Set in the heart of an idyllic hamlet, this lovely holiday property is brimming with character and history, with original features throughout.

Yr Hen Efail is formed from an 18th-century former blacksmith’s shop situated in the heart of the idyllic hamlet of St Florence, which dates back to Norman times. This stunning, characterful property has been tastefully restored to its former glory and is teeming with original and traditional features, including solid wooden floors, original tiled floor and beautiful exposed beamed ceilings.
Yr Hen Efail, meaning ‘blacksmiths shop’, enjoys a focal solid wooden gallery staircase meandering to the master bedroom to the right and left to further bedrooms, and there is an original wooden cartwheel hung over the feature staircase. Enjoy breakfast in the large kitchen and then through the curved archway for formal dining and continuing through the French doors onto the garden area to enjoy the sunshine.
Travelling west along the coast, you will stumble across Broad Haven and Freshwater West which are both popular for water sports with surfing and canoeing available, or, take a stroll along the clifftops and down to the picture-postcard beach of Barafundle, managed by the National Trust. Travelling east, you will pass through Tenby, Saundersfoot, Amroth and Pendine and onto the township of Laugharn, home to the famous poet Dylan Thomas, where you can visit his house and ’writing shed’ where the ‘Under Milk Wood’ is understood to have been written.
This lovely holiday property is the perfect destination to discover this area with 186 miles of rugged Pembrokeshire Coast footpath to ramble. Enjoy the local home-cooked food and Welsh ales in the local village pub where a warm welcome awaits. The historic market town of Narberth is nearby with a wide range of antique, craft and gift shops. Traveling north you will discover the magnificent Cenarth Falls where you can watch the salmon and sewin jumping up through the falls on the River Teifi; walks are aplenty here with lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery to be seen. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant in village. Delightful stylish cottage. Extremely comfortable and very well equipped. A lovely garden pleasant to sit out it in with attractive garden furniture. The village is very friendly and easy to walk round. The small shop has everything needed. Plenty of useful tourist information and the very pleasant owner available if advice needed. Loved staying there.

We would highly recommend a visit to this stunning cottage. We were all pleasantly surprised by the size of the accommodation and how close we were to all amenities. The cottage catered for all requirements and we will definitely be planning our next visit. A massive thank you to Debra for such a warm welcome we didn’t want to return home.
