During our stay we had to initially unblock the sink using the plunger placed prominently in the shower room, even so it still drained very slowly. We twice had to use the plunger to unblock the shower, the second time this resulted in black sludge/sewage entering the shower tray while I was standing in it. On Tuesday morning on flushing the shower room toilet it overflowed and black old sewage flowed from the open vent on the Sanitop Macerator Pump. I cleaned up as best I could with 3 towels which went into plastic bags and into the outside bin. As my very elderly parents were just about to arrive for lunch, I had little option but to change and take them out for lunch. I informed Jayne (the owner), she responded by apologising and asking if I required an air freshener! An hour or so later Jayne got back to tell me that a plumber would be arriving first thing in the morning. The plumber did not arrive till 10:10 and then spent the day in and out. I spent quite a bit of time with him (very nice chap). He explained how the waste pipe from the upstairs toilet, shower and sink was not large enough to cope with the waste water, hence, the ongoing problems with the shower-room (funnily enough the owner keeps 2 spare Macerator pumps in her shed). The plumber also explained that the Sanitop Macerator Pump should be fitted with a vent valve (lets air in, stops sewage coming out). With no vent valve the Sanitop was open (in effect an open sewer). Our morning should have been at Scarborough, but was spent waiting for and assisting the plumber (toilet overflowed again when he tried it, more towels in the bin). As we had booked to be at airsoft that evening I had to leave the property with the door unlocked and plumber still in attendance (with consent of owner). Contacted later that evening on mobile by owner to inform us that plumber had finished. Next morning water on shower room floor as leaking from the pipe leading to toilet flush where plumber had removed and replaced Sanitop Macerator pump. Again owner was notified. To compound the above, the downstairs toilet door could not be shut and it had a door to the outside which we were told not to open as it led to the owner’s courtyard (not good if opened when you are on the toilet). We had to make use of the facilities (toilet and shower) within Bridlington, mainly the sports complex 5 minutes walk away which luckily opened from 0600 till 2200. We were also staying out as long as possible each day, as even with plug in air freshener set to maximum the smell was still quite prominent. Having now read the last 2 reviews from people that stayed the weeks before us, it was quite upsetting to find they had experienced similar problems and nothing had been done. Looking further back in the reviews, it would seem to be an on-going problem. The above was not the only issues, some of which included someone trying to get into our teenage daughter’s bedroom while she was still in bed (turned out to be the plumber who was trying to access the beach hut from the owner’s property next door through a door in her bedroom (the bunkbed room) which we had wrongly assumed was a locked cupboard. He explained how the property had once been part of a vicarage that had been extended and divided hence the strange door. Also the door to the main bedroom had to be lifted to shut it as the upper hinge was not fitted correctly. The door was a heavy fire door and my wife could not accomplish this without help. I have just retired after serving 37 years in the UK armed forces. During my career, I have stayed in some pretty basic accommodation but never experienced the problems we encountered with beach hut.
