We had a lovely few days at the apple store - lovely people and woody the dog had a great time with our dogs. However we didn’t realise that the dogs could not be left unattended in the cottage so it did effect some of our original plans and restricted what we could do as it was too hot for the dogs to wait in the car. But other than that a great break.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your great review. The dog-staying-at-home issue is tricky. We try not to leave our own dog on his own for too long and worry about guests’ dogs if they’re left all day, especially in the summer. And it’s one of Cottages.com's policies that pets aren’t left alone on the property – quite reasonable I suppose, as there has been a couple of occasions where owners have left their dogs without asking us and they’ve caused a considerable amount of damage and have clearly been distressed. They have been the exceptions though, and in some situations this issue is negotiable.

Very disappointed, no private garden, very uncomfortable bed and lounge furniture. Noise and fumes from the boiler annoying, as had to have bedroom windows open due to heat in bedroom. We were so uncomfortable couldn't stay there.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We’re always curious when this happens every couple of years; we have almost unfailing review scores of 9 and 10, then suddenly, one week our property is no longer “comfortable (especially the bed), faultless, delightful, immaculate and amazing”, as described by other guests! With the best will in the world it’s difficult to address our visitors’ concerns when they don’t mention them. Actually, there’s a lovely patio space with a table and chairs outside the French windows, solely for guests’ use, we also make very clear that we are more than happy for dogs to use the whole garden. The property description states very clearly that the garden is shared. We provide a fan and air-con as the bedroom is up in the eaves, and the mattress is new this year (a Which ‘Best Buy’). The large sofa is a bespoke sofa we had made for us with quality foam for extra comfort. The boiler does come on now and then of course, but the bedroom has five windows on three different sides of the building. We will continue to provide the best experience we can for Apple Store visitors and really appreciate the feedback we get from you. In the property we have a book for guests to write in problems and suggestions, if there is anything we can improve we always try to attend to it.

This cottage met our needs and was immaculate and well equipped. The owners are dog friendly and our two enjoyed their time. If you are willing to explore the quiet lanes around there are public footpaths aplenty off these roads. Horses and pedal bikes outnumber cars so be careful. The Daggers pub (nearest) is more restaurant than pub. If you walk across the fields to it you need wellies. We preferred The Raven at Poulshot and The Bell at Great Cheverell which both did excellent food and have us dog treats. Thoroughly recommended.

The Apple Store is a nice modern place to stay and well equipped. The owners were lovely and very helpful. The location is very rural. There are footpaths right from the cottage but these are not major ones. Be aware that the nearest shop and pub are 1 mile away and can be walked to across muddy fields. Walking there down the road is not a safe option (too busy/no footpaths). Driving is a must for supplies and eating out.
