Within easy reach of Dover, this is a perfect property for that day trip to France or exploring the Kent countryside.

This comfortable, single-storey annexe, in Kentish style, adjoining the owner’s home, is located in the beautiful countryside of Old Wives Lees near Canterbury. Decorated and furnished to a good standard and at the end of a cul-de-sac, it makes the perfect base from which to enjoy walks and abundant wildlife. A cosy open plan living area with French windows joins the kitchen and leads to the double bedroom. A wildflower garden with sitting area is also located behind the property, which leads into 5 acres of unspoilt woodlands. Local attractions include Chilham village, with its unique medieval square, often used for film sets. Wye is also a lovely village to visit, 6 miles away and the historic city of Canterbury, with its famous cathedral and culture, is close by. The seaside resorts of Whitstable, Deal, Broadstairs and Herne Bay are within an hour’s drive. Go back in time and explore the castles of Dover, Deal and Walmer. For a day trip to France, ferry journeys from Dover, or the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to France are frequent and very popular. For eating, there are two excellent local pubs in Chilham, and also one at Chartham. Otherwise, there are many good restaurants in Canterbury. Beach 11 miles. Shop and pubs 1 mile, restaurants 7 miles.

2 steps down to entrance. All on ground floor: Living room/kitchen with laminate floors. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet and tiled floor.

The owner was most hospitable and kind. There was a generous welcome tray on arrival and during the week she brought us a further bowl of raspberries freshly picked from her garden. There were plenty of interesting places to visit in and around that part of Kent. The location at the end of a single track road well away from busy main roads suited us well.

Perfect for an 'away from it all' break. This small annexe had everything that was needed for a quiet and comfortable visit to a beautiful part of the country, providing rural seclusion alongside easy access to the city of Canterbury, splendid North Downs and three coast options.

We were welcomed to this gem by the most friendly and helpful hosts we have ever encountered during all our trips to the UK. The cottage itself proved to be an ideal location for exploring the Kentish countryside: a relaxing rural setting, but close to Canterbury and perfect for short trips to Dover, Hasting, Walmer etc. It also takes you only a couple of minutes to reach the North Downs Way (National Trail) through the beautiful countryside and to the medieval village of Chilham. The french doors at the back of the cottage lead into a charming garden, so sometimes we enjoyed just sitting outside - or be able to watch the suirrels and birds during breakfast.

Lovely location set in extensive woodlands. Well equipped but a bit chilly at night and could have done with a heater in the bedroom but I'm sure Marilyn would have provided one if I had asked. Very friendly and helpful hostess who made me feel welcome. Hope to stay again next year as location is perfect for exploring the area.

The place smelt really damp and the sofa smelt strongly of damp. I was told there would be a welcome pack but there was nothing and the cottage was not near to any shops.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I do not understand why the flat smelled damp, as I had been cleaning and airing it that day, and had not noticed it. On close inspection (after being told about the smell of damp in the review), I discovered that the air brick in the sitting area was blocked from outside by the remnants of a bird's nest. I cleared it right away, and covered the outside with wire mesh. I do apologise. Also, I apologise for not having provided milk and biscuits, which I have always done. As this guest arrived late (at 5.35), after only half an hour's drive, and she was going shopping, I presumed that she would be buying milk for the weekend (as others do, even though I always provided some). I did give the guest a bowl of cherries and flowers cut from the garden. The extensive Welcome pack, with directions to the local shop (7 minutes away by car) and pubs, as well as many brochures for local places of interest, was prominent on the table. As to there not being a nearby shop: living in the country, one cannot expect a shop next door, and indeed this is one of the attractions of my flat. I gave the guest directions to the nearest one. When the guest arrived, she said that the flat suited her perfectly, that it was just what she needed. When she left (a day early), I found a note thanking me for letting her stay in my lovely cottage. Unfortunately, the guest had to cut their visit short due to a family matter, but said they will return again soon. I texted the guest regarding this, and then tried to ring her, but for some reason she obviously did not want to respond. I cannot understand how she could present two quite opposite versions of her stay here. As noted by most of the other guests I do all I can to make my guests comfortable.
