Description

Tucked in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with spectacular views and walking from the door.

Set on a hillside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this converted stone barn, which has been awarded a 3 star VisitEngland award, is nestled down a private lane surrounded by beautiful, farmed, green fields, in the tiny hamlet of Marrick. As such it enjoys spectacular long distance views with hardly another house to be seen, and is ideally placed for walking direct from the door along the nearby ‘Nun’s Causey’, a centuries old stone path leading to the Priory through a wildflower-filled wood. Reeth is just 2 miles and offers a small selection of shops and pubs, whilst historic Richmond is 6 miles and offers a wider selection of shops together with the castle, cobbled market place and Georgian Theatre. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Superb cottage in a lovely location despite the stormy weather. Great views across the dale and a must for those who seek peace and quiet. The only issue I have is that the shower could be improved but other that that, I recommend this cottage and we will return again.

We wanted a peaceful holiday with no traffic noise in beautiful surroundings. Tetheran Cottage provided it with all we wanted. There are a number of pub/restaurants within a few miles and also some shops for food, milk etc, but do not expect to be able to carry out shopping expeditions, unless you are willing to drive to Darlington or another large town. There is no light polution at the cottage, but there were no clear nights when we we there so we were unable to go stargazing which was a bit disappointing. All in all an enjoyable holiday in a very peaceful place.

We enjoyed our week at Tetheran cottage, 5 adults plus one dog! It was cosy but comfortable. The very last part of the journey to the cottage is quite difficult as there is no road surface (gravel track) so had to be negotiated slowly and carefully. The neighbours next door appeared for a couple of days which did feel quite intrusive and they didn’t seem to welcome our presence...Also, the ‘instructions’ for rubbish disposal were not very clear although we did find the recycle bin in the kitchen. The only other issue was the lack of hot water without putting on the immersion heater which seemed excessive for washing the dishes. All in all a lovely (remote) place to stay and we shall be making a return visit in the future
