Tucked away is this cluster of three imaginatively converted stone barns, Tawnawood, Cobble and Nuthatch. Tawnawood is a spacious two-bedroom property that sleeps 6. There is a large living room with feature wood burner within a slate hearth fireplace. The extensive kitchen is fully fitted and has a dishwasher, large dining table and handmade seating benches. The staircase has handmade spindles and banisters and both bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and rustic floorboards. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and the second bedroom has twin beds. There is a double sofa bed in the living room and the barn has a large family bathroom.
All the cottages have internal handmade doors, beautifully crafted handles, all wood sourced from the property’s own woodlands. The cottages are positioned just beyond the owners’ home and surrounded by 20 acres of peaceful private woodland and fields and are accessed via a ½ mile driveway up through the woods. Pheasants, hawks and buzzards may sometimes accompany your drive up through the woods and in the spring a carpet of bluebells covers the ancient woodland. The barns enjoy a delightful position overlooking the Glynn Valley and Lanhydrock Estate, and the barns and the immediate surrounding area were chosen as a film set for Ella’s Journey, screened in 2018. The countryside is undulating and lightly wooded and thought by some to be the most beautiful in the county. The situation is as idyllic as it is convenient, being central to everywhere in Cornwall, accessible to local amenities and out of the county without miles of winding lanes, but just distant enough from the outside world to be a quiet rural retreat.
These three stone barns are dated mid 1700’s and have been lovingly converted using elm and oak from the surrounding woods, and offer a rustic quirky and charming interior. Each barn is unique and full of interesting architectural features making the interiors appealing, and offers a lovely warm welcoming ambience. Surrounded by pleasantly landscaped gardens and wonderful valley views from their own patios, they are ideal for couples looking for a perfect romantic hideaway and for families seeking a secluded spot away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Why not have a family get together and occupy all three cottages? Just a 3-minute drive will take you to the A30 making exploring the whole of Cornwall very accessible. A 10-minute walk down the drive and along a country lane will take you to Cardinham Woods, with its award-winning café, cycle trails and woodland walks, with stunning view points along the way. The woods are extremely popular with people of all ages and abilities, whether you enjoy a leisurely stroll or bike ride with your children; or for the more energetic, a long hike, or for the hardy mountain biker, the 12k Bodmin Beast Cycle Trail!
Beaches of both the north and south coasts are about 15 miles away, some popular and offering fishing, sailing and surfing, others small and secluded; the coastal path is a continuous drama of cliff and sea and sky. There is excellent walking and cycling in the surrounding area, and the Longdowns bridleway runs past the barns. Restormel Castle and Lostwithiel are both 4 miles away, and Bodmin, 3 miles, has shops, cycle hire, swimming pool, sports centre, inns, restaurants and golf. Bodmin Steam Railway can be heard in the distance within the valley and riding is available locally. Wadebridge and the Camel Trail are also a few miles away.
These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 12 guests.

A beautiful cottage set at the end on a 1/2 mile private road at the edge of Cardinham woods Finished to a very good standard I would point out that it IS in a very rural location so be aware of this as if you need anything you will have to drive a few miles to the nearest shop, once you know this then it is a beautiful place to stay to sit back and relax Also be aware that as such a rural location the WiFi is extremely slow to virtually non-existent so don't bargain on using any internet while you are there! As I said though it is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location

Wonderful relaxing holiday. The cottage was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Highly recommend for a week away from it all. David and Cristal were very welcoming. If I could please suggest - a small bistro table outside ?on the patio would be perfect.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; It was a pleasure having you to stay. Glad you had a relaxing time. Very happy to take your comment on board and we will source a suitable table for the garden. Welcome any time.

Great location friendly hosts enjoyed the cafe in the woods at the bottom of the drive peaceful and quiet crackling logs in fire satisfying. The A30 makes anywhere in Cornwall accessible loved Port Quinn and the coffee van in car park and endless Neolithic Sites easily found. No WIFI as advertised did not bother us too much as we had 4G but would have been useful for research.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Glad you enjoyed the open fire and our central location not far from the A30. We are very happy to confirm that our WiFi is now finally connected after a long unexpected delay. Being at the top of the hill does give us excellent 4G signal.

No WiFi - not installed, but advertised. No garden - front garden is shared and no grass. Not really dog friendly as no garden and living area is carpetted. Patio area is two chairs on couple of slabs. One of the single matresses was very hard. Plus points are views and nice owners. Driveway is an experience !! Very steep and no passing places. Will not return, but did have a nice week away despite its downfalls.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Due to an unforeseen BT delay the fibre optic will be connected on 14th May, ordered on 2nd Jan. We were very apologetic for something beyond our control. You happily accepted our sincere apology. We would not have minded if you moved any of the 3 benches which are scattered across the front garden to take in the different views. The benches all sit on the lawn, the chairs sit on old reclaimed Delabole slate. If our other guests encroached on Tawnamoor’s garden we would have happily asked them to respect your privacy, had you mentioned it. There was no evidence of anyone else using your washing line. Thank you for letting us know that you found a single mattress to be hard, the two are of different firmness to try to cater for our guests’ different preferences. Thank you for alerting us that our current three passing places were not very clear to you, at least the traffic is only us, our guests and the odd postman, unlike the narrow country lanes in Cornwall. Good that the incline ensures slow speeds for safety and giving more time to enjoy the bluebells and wildlife on the drive through our private woods.

Perfect in summer as the cottage will be cool, but as we went in early spring it was cold (mainly due to rain and hail dropping the outside temperature). Otherwise a perfect cottage in every other respect.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Hi Christine, very happy that you enjoyed Tawnawood. The open fire would have kept you cosy, always happy to help light it if required. Hope to welcome you again in the future.

A great cottage, it was equipped with all that we needed. Definitely made use of the wood burner as it was a little chilly. (February) Location is beautiful, I’d love to go back in the summer or warmer months. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Steph, glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes the summer months are very nice especially the views and woods, but always busy. Welcome any time.

Lovely cottage and location is stunning. Bedrooms are stunning and very rustic country feel. Log fire was a massive hit. Unfortunately the cleaniness wasnt up to scratch with kitchen utensils and chopping boards were dirty with food residue. Electric had to be paid for but no mention of this on the website. We went out for a few hours and left our dog in the property in his crate, we spoke to one of the owners to let her know that he may bark as being a puppy but advised he would settle. Told Crystal we would be back between 4-5pm. We left at lunchtime. On our return David was waiting for us by the drive, he came across as very aggressive and was shouting at us for leaving our dog in the property. We told him that we told his wife but this wasnt communicated through. There is no mention on the website or in the welcome pack that dogs are not able to be left in the property unattended. The matter could of been dealt with alot better as because of this we would not return. we were charged the full amount for having the dog there a week even though our dog was only there for 2 nights. The description of the property isnt a true reflection of the service offered.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; The kitchen was clean when your brother arrived, who was in sole occupancy for 36hrs before you arrived. The electric system is clearly stated on our advert and again in our welcome notes. If there were an issue, it would have been advisable to mention this during your stay. You left a six-month-old puppy in his crate during his first day in the cottage from 11am until 5.15pm, a total of 6+ hours, during which he cried more or less nonstop. As dog lovers, it broke our hearts. With the welfare of the animal in mind, we do not appreciate our cottage being used as a kennel. We expect our guests to behave responsibly; as such, we will be changing our notes to inform our guests that dogs cannot be left alone. Hearing a dog crying is also distressing for our guests in the other two cottages. You did not inform us that the dog would only be staying for part of the week, had you mentioned this we could have come to an agreement.
