This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Enjoy the many attractions that Newquay has to offer, including sandy beaches, a zoo and a working harbour.

Just minutes from two of Newquay’s most beautiful beaches, Porth and Lusty Glaze, this stunning, detached property provides the ideal base for that all important beach holiday on Cornwall’s beautiful coast. Situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, the house has views out to sea and along the coast. Lusty Glaze beach, which is adjacent to the Tamarisk House, has a beachfront restaurant, live music venue and activity centre, with jet ski hire and lessons, and a zip wire that crosses the beach. Porth beach, which can be seen from the house, has a beachside pub serving local ales and good food, a small beach shop and a tapas bar.
Newquay, a 15-minute walk, provides an abundance of attractions suitable for the whole family, including wide sandy beaches, restaurants, beachside cafés, a zoo, an aquarium, parks, sports centres, swimming pools, surf schools, sea fishing, go karting, horse riding and a links golf course. Newquay’s traditional working harbour has fishing trips and diving boats, providing the opportunity to take to the sea and catch some fish for the evening’s barbecue.
Surrounding the town are many picturesque and secluded coastal villages, with quiet spots to get away from the crowds, including Crantock and Mawgan Porth. Padstow and Watergate Bay are also close by and home to Rick Stein’s and Jamie Oliver’s restaurants (booking essential). Watergate Bay also has a water sports adventure centre for kite surfing, surfing and stand up paddle boarding. Further afield, visit the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House and many other National Trust gardens and historic houses. Truro, St Ives, Penzance, Falmouth, Port Isaac and Fowey are also within easy reach of Newquay and all provide an excellent day out for the whole family, proving that Tamarisk House provides the perfect touring base. Stayed for the weekend as 5 couples. Was disappointed to find the main bedroom (which is the loft conversion) has no door so is completely open to view from the bottom of the stairs, not so bad if just a family using the accommodation but not ideal for couples / two families etc. As other people have said there are several little things that would be easy fixes to make the house top quality again, leaking roof in dining room, broken windows on hot tub room and broken cover bracket for hot tub, no dressing table / shelving in outside bedroom. The location is fantastic and the place was a good standard of cleanliness and the hot tub was clean aswell. We enjoyed our break and felt even with the issues it was good value for money, but that would not be the case in peak times.

Tamarisk House is located in a superb position, we went to Lusty Glaze at least twice a day to body board, and Newquay was about a fifteen minute walk. We went as a family of eight and the space and equipment available was good. All the beds, bedding and towels were beautifully clean. But .... the downfalls were many. There was no heating in the dining area or kitchen which was a great shame as the dining area was lovely. As for the hot tub...the lid was broken making it very difficult to operate, there were two broken glass panels in two doors, which according to the visitors book were like it this time last year, the whole area was very shabby. At the end of the week we decided to use the washing machine and it just flooded profusely, again a comment regarding this in the visitors book! We felt that the whole house needed a good dose of tlc. The price charged for our week did not reflect our expectations.

House is situated in a fantastic setting with views that are spectacular at times. Easy to get to the beach’s and very easy to access. House itself has a beautiful kitchen and just needs some tweaks to make it into a higher star review. Dining room table only seats 8 although the cottage sleeps 10, there are two high seats but means that someone sits much higher and cannot reach the table. House has a few issues with cleaning, stains as you initially walk into the property can be very off putting, cleanliness of the rooms needs a little more detail. Hot tub room needs to be aired more often as very condensated and smells strongly. Tumble dryer needs looking at as doesn’t stop as door opens when switched on and may be a safety issue? Wi-fi is very inconsistent and some parts of the house do not have any service at all. Brilliant selection of books and kitchen equipment, extremely spacious and homes 10 people easily. Very quiet neighbourhood and easy walk into Newquay and porth.

Lovely cottage plenty of room for our large family group. Excellent location and plenty of parking. Well equipped with nice finishing touches. Disappointed that the hot water for showers seemed to run out in the mornings if we all showered around the same time and the wi fi was a little hit and miss. Overall had a wonderful stay and would recommend.

Location is fantastic for those who want to be within walking distance of a family-friendly beach. House is good - great living spaces, places to hang up wet beach stuff and the kids loved the ping pong table too! There are a few problems with it, which one of the previous reviewers mentioned. The wifi is terrible but that didn't trouble us - you don't go to Cornwall on holiday for great wifi. Main issues were only 8 seats at the dining table, the fridge in the kitchen doesn't keep things cold (but there is a fridge in the garage) and the hot tub needed cleaning. Having said all that, we still had a great holiday.

Fantastic house in a fantastic location. Yes, it needed some bits of maintainence that would have brought it to another level, but overall, all 9 if us thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would live to return.

My score would be much higher had it not been for so many really simple too put right issues that plague this property. It is set up for 10 people yet there is seating for no more than 6 in the lounge. The garden furniture is almost non existent and the bbq had not been cleaned for some time even old disposable bbqs from previous guests left inside. The garden looks lovely in pictures but is sadly overrun and not cared for sufficiantly. There is distinct lack of storage in the bedrooms for putting away clothing. The WiFi is awful and drops out for hours at a time. The welcome pack detailed on the web page is actually a pint of milk and a couple of tea bags!! Hardly what I would call a warm welcome. There is only one hairdryer on site so please bring your own and things like alarm clocks are just not there which is usually a norm at most places. The hot tub is large but had issues with it while staying and had too get the guy out too clean it who suggested people have been known too wash there clothes and hair in it in the past which seemed beyond bizarre. Location wise beautiful with some amazing views just disappointed that it really didn’t do what it said on the tin as it were!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Firstly, we have not had a comment in the past 3 1/2 years like this one. The internet was dropping in and out the week the clients were staying in the house as a result of BT doing some updates in the local area. Unfortunately this is out of my control. We will look into the outside furniture available for future clients. The chairs that are in the sun room at the back of the property are there to be taken outside to use at times of good weather. As for alarm clocks, we feel they are quite dated now, and most people use their mobile phones. I was aware that you had problems with the Hot Tub whilst you stayed. We have never experienced the problems before with the Hot Tub that you were experiencing. Since you stayed at the property, nobody else has had trouble with the Tub. With reference to the barbecue being dirty, and old disposable barbecues being left inside, I will get onto my cleaner about this, as this should not happen. The gardener will be spoken to about the care of the gardens.

Cottage was well laid out downstairs. Bedrooms very small with limited drawers & hanging space especially the annex there was no where to put any toiletries. I think the best bedroom was the attic but not for tall people. That had plenty of hanging & drawer space. Could have done with another hair dryer as one for 10 people is not enough. Lack of garden furniture also it would have been nice to have had 2 small chairs on the balcony. Welcome pack was very poor.

We had a lovely time at Tamarisk House at Easter. The weather held up and allowed us to do all that we wanted. The house is impressive with plenty room for everyone particularly in the living areas.Plenty of quiet spaces if you wanted them. The hot tub was a real bonus particularly with it being under cover. The kids loved it and went in daily. The house is well located for touring Cornwall and is an easy 15 minute walk into town.It has taken us too long to find Cornwall. We will be back.
