In the far north west of Scotland on the Outer Hebrides, you will find the Isle of Lewis. This faraway land is a magical place with myths and legends to be found. The Port of Ness is in the north of Lewis near to the Butt of Lewis where an iconic Stevenson Lighthouse stands tall and strong and it has had to be sturdy because this part of Lewis is officially the windiest in the UK. It’s a wild, formidable and unbelievably stunning place to experience. Experiencing this part of the world from Taigh an t-Seada near to the Port of Ness is exactly what you should do.
The owners have created a wonderful holiday home in Adabrock for up to six people, an old croft house dating from the turn of the century that has been brilliantly renovated and modernised. Any family would love staying in this house for a week or two. The owner is a Harris Tweed weaver, who would be happy to invite the guests into her loomshed to see how it all works. The shed is based in the picturesque village of Port of Ness, where the guests will be able to take advantage of going to the edge of the croft and taking beautiful photos of the beach below. Port of Ness is also featured in the famous book “The Blackhouse” by Peter May. The views from the house are incredible; from the front there are views across The Minch to the mainland of Scotland. The mountains of Assynt and also Cape Wrath in the far north west of mainland Scotland are visible. Out the back of the house there are views across the Ness community to the port and also to the lighthouse. It’s a truly spectacular location. In the property, the ground floor offers spacious accommodation, the kitchen/dining room is a fabulous, triple-aspect space with modern appliances. There is a lovely, comfortable living room with a wood burner and wall-mounted Smart TV. Also on the ground floor is the master bedroom and the fantastic family shower room. On the first floor there are two further spacious bedrooms, one a double, the other a twin, and there is a convenient first floor cloakroom. Outside the property there is seating to enjoy the location and a lot of space for the children to run around and let off some steam.
Talking of letting off steam, only a short walk away there is possibly one of the best children’s play areas in Scotland, built into the dunes near to a sandy beach. It’s idyllic for children to play away for hours and hours or days and days. Close to the play park you’ll find Sporsnis - a local leisure centre sporting the only 10 pin bowling to be found in Lewis and Harris. There are a few sandy beaches all within walking distance of the house, and they offer shelter depending on which way the wind is coming from, so you can always find a calm spot to relax on the beach. The Port of Ness has a great café that serves good food and just up the road, the Cross Inn is a brilliant place to eat and drink.
Beyond the far north of Lewis there are many places to visit. Down the west coast the Blackhouse Village and Callanish Standing Stones await exploration and so does famous Uig Bay, Stornoway and surrounds deserve time because there’s so much on offer, and Harris which is connected to Lewis to the south is definitely worth a day or two of adventures. Taigh an t-Seada is a fantastic holiday home that you shouldn’t hesitate in booking. Having a holiday in this house will be an excellent decision well made. Beach 1 mile.
