Swan’s Nest is a period property built in the ’Savoyard’ style by the late Mrs Hotham of Milne Graden. Austrian by birth, a little of her home town was brought to the Scottish Borders. Beautifully furnished and decorated, this delightful, cosy cottage is just perfect for a restful holiday on the banks of the glorious River Tweed and yet with very easy access to the Northumbrian coast, Edinburgh and Newcastle. This charming semi-detached cottage sits within a small cluster of the holiday cottages of Sunnyside on the private estate of Milne Graden, all of which enjoy direct access and stunning views of the River Tweed. Meticulous attention has been paid to creating a perfect holiday home with stylish soft furnishings, a welcoming open fire and comfortable beds with beautifully presented linen. David Milne-Home, landowner, meteorologist, a Scottish advocate and geologist was an early owner of the estate. He was the President of the Edinburgh Geological Society for 15 years which is the longest tenure in the history of the society.
Your canine companion is equally welcome with a doggy treat bag and the use of the ’tails of the Tweed dog park’ within the sheltered, walled Victorian garden. Here, your dog can be happily off the lead to race around over the dog agility obstacles and play with the toys provided. There are a number of mapped walking routes throughout the estate and a myriad of activities in the area, from quietly strolling through the ancient border abbeys, to boat trips to the Farne Islands from Seahouses or over the tidal causeway to Holy Island, 22 miles. The area is blessed with excellent independent shops, restaurants and intriguing arts and crafts galleries. Edinburgh and Newcastle are both around 40 minutes away by train from Berwick-upon-Tweed, 12 miles. Beach 11¾ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 5 miles.
Swan’s Nest can be booked together with Park End (ref UK10882) to accommodate up to 6 guests.

Loved our stay at Swans Nest. Location amazing. Welcoming and homely. Only problem was no heaters from April and it was still cold during our visit in May. We did love the log fire downstairs though so at least that room was warm on cold days. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Hi Julie – we’re so sorry to hear you were cold. There are electric heaters throughout the property with user instructions in the arrival folder for all our guests. We also have a 24hour estate manager who would gladly have attended you at the property to help you with the controls. Best wishes from everyone at Milne Graden.

A cosy little cottage in an idyllic, tranquil setting overlooking the River Tweed. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat you will find it at Swan's Nest. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday. There is plenty to do and see within easy reach by car and the train from Berwick upon Tweed will take you to Edinburgh for the day.
