Description

Guests to Sunwood House will not be stuck for things to do, with cities, countryside, coastal resorts and historic buildings all close by.

In a wonderfully peaceful, remote country setting within the South Downs National Park, this warm and friendly family home offers superb views across the countryside. It is located in the pretty hamlet of Ditcham, near to Tithe Barn, a popular wedding venue, and about 3 miles from Petersfield, which has many shops, pubs, eateries and a mainline station with trains direct to London or Portsmouth. This comfortable detached house has a rustic charm and many personal touches, as well as an eclectic mix of furnishings. With children in mind, there are many toys and games, an enclosed garden and there is plenty of parking - up to four dogs are welcome too! Situated on the South Downs Way, which runs between Winchester and Eastbourne, the property has direct access to extensive scenic walks.
The historic cathedral city of Chichester is within half an hour’s drive, with its cobbled streets adorned with tea rooms and restaurants, and so are Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses. Scenic boat tours can be taken around Chichester Harbour. Petworth House, polo at Cowdray and Midhurst, Guildford and historic Winchester, with its ornate cathedral, are all 45 minutes away.
Also within easy reach is the south coast, with the beach at West Wittering a beautiful place to visit, whatever the season, and can be enjoyed by all ages. Hayling Island, a shingle beach with a funfair for the children and great watersports, is also about a 45-minute drive. Portsmouth makes for a good day out, with Spinnaker Tower, HMS Warrior and HMS Victory, waterside dining, extensive designer shopping and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight. Other places to visit include Southampton with its extensive maritime history, Peppa Pig World, the vast heathland walks/riding in The New Forest, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s House, Gilbert White’s house, Marwell Zoo, Birdworld and Queen Elizabeth Country Park to name but a few! Beach 15 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

We enjoyed our week at Sunwood House and would like to return in warmer weather. It was chilly to start with but got better once the central heating came on. Its a great place for those that like walking and cycling. The dog liked the large enclosed garden.

First impressions not great.........overpowering smell of damp with multiple air fresheners attempting to mask the smell. Mould in the bathroom, dirty ripped furnishings, filthy animal hide skins on the floor. Multiple socket extension cables in an unsafe state. Nothing had been PAT tested despite it being a recommendation. Outside 2 fence panels down ( therefore not an enclosed garden) disgusting hot tub full of debris with exposed electrics and chemical containers strewn around the garden. We contacted the owner on the 2nd day to report some of the issues. This was mainly met by denial on his part however he did reluctantly agree to fix some of the problems while we were staying. ..... NOTHING was rectified during our stay. We came home 2 days early. This property is an accident waiting to happen. The surrounding area and location is stunning..............its such a shame the property was not.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Whilst we realise that the House will not be for everyone, we are sad that there are no positive points in your review and are genuinely disappointed to receive such a low score which is not consistent with our usual feedback. We take great pride in the cleanliness of Sunwood House as our previous reviews show. The score has never fallen below an 8 and is more often than not, 10 out of 10. Unfortunately, a small patch of mould had appeared on the bathroom ceiling and as soon as we were made aware, the Housekeeper attended to the issue. We have since fitted a fan in the bathroom to prevent any mould appearing. A Freeview box has now been fitted alongside the Apple TV to mitigate any issues with guests who may not have an Apple device. An IPad was provided for your family to allow access to the Apple TV. The hot tub was ready and waiting for you to use and was checked prior to your arrival. Upon your early departure, we found that the panelling around the hot tub had been removed, thus exposing some pipes / tubes. If you were unsure as how to use the hot tub, you only needed to let us know and we would have been more than happy to pop round and show you. Also, we found that the kitchen units had been dismantled to expose the plugs situated behind. The electrics in the property have all been wired by professional electricians and if you had any doubts, we would have been pleased to have told you this over the phone prior to the units being dismantled. We looked after these guests as best we could and put a lot of effort into rectifying the issues they reported during their stay. A refund has since been issued for the two nights the guest did not occupy the House. We trust future guests will rely on our other feedback for a more balanced review of our property.

A higgeldy piggeldy house but in a quirky way. Plenty of room for our party of 6 adults and 2 dogs. We spent a long weekend at Sunwood House and felt very at home and comfortable. The garden is a good size and totally enclosed and dog proof. The hot tub, whilst enjoyable, is only big enough for two adults at a time. Good walks straight from the property. No shops within walking distance.
