Sunnymead Cottages (ref PGZ and PHA) are situated in the High Weald village of High Hurstwood, a designated AONB. Set in a landscape of undulating pastures, they provide a peaceful retreat. Converted to a very high standard and adjoining one another; Pippins provides ground floor accommodation and Russets has ground and first floor accommodation. They lie at the end of 220 yards of private drive, amid 12 acres of gardens and orchards in the grounds of the owners’ house. The grounds are a haven for wildlife; birds, deer and badgers are regular visitors. Each cottage has its own garden area in which to sit out and unwind. The nearby Bluebell Steam Railway makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park, with its period railway station. A great day out can also be enjoyed in Ashdown Forest, under two miles away and a refuge for wildlife. It offers opportunities for walking, riding and picnics. If guests do not feel like taking the car out, there is direct access onto a public footpath just outside the garden and the Vanguard Way is only 10 minutes’ walk away. Local wines can be sampled at various vineyards in the vicinity. There is easy access to historic houses including Glyndebourne Opera House, the spa town Tunbridge Wells and 1066 country. There is also much to see along the coast where shops, bars and restaurants beckon in Brighton and Eastbourne. The nearest railway station is only 6 minutes’ drive with direct access to London in just over one hour. Golf can be found locally. Shop 2 miles, pub serving good food just a 5-minute walk.

Russets (PGZ) and Pippins (PHA) can be booked together to accommodate up to 4 guests.

An excellent cottage in an excellent location for exploring much of the surrounding area. The cottage was clean, very comfortable and warm - ideal when we had come back from walks in the cold weather. The owners were very pleasant and were there for us when we needed them. The cottage was very rural, being on the edge of a village, but there were walks from the cottage and, had the weather been a little kinder, we would have explored some of these.

Me and my partner had a lovely time staying at Russets. We just wanted a short break away from the norm and not too far to travel to from home, and this was perfect. The owner is very friendly and allowed us to explore her land as we pleased. The location is tucked far enough away from the local towns of Crowborough and Uckfield, but they are close enough to drive to, to top up on food shopping and get petrol. We had a stress free, relaxing, calm, peaceful break and it was just perfect for us. It's very well presented and we had everything we needed for 4 nights. We stayed at the end of November and the house was super warm. We had beautiful frosty mornings and enjoyed looking out on the winter sunshine on the tree tops, watching the birds flying around. We will definitely be returning here for another break away.

A spotlessly clean holiday let, very well equipped and comfortable for two people. The owner, Joan, was on hand to welcome us and checked during our stay that we were OK (i.e. on a cold afternoon, she asked if we wanted the heating on). The location is quiet and peaceful in a wooded area with outside seating in a pretty patio area. There are plenty of attractions within a reasonable driving distance, a pub with excellent food around 5 minutes walk, and shops and supermarkets a short drive away.

A very attractive little house which was really well equipped. Ideally located for visiting the many stunning historical gardens and houses/castle in the area. The owner was very helpful and friendly. We would stay there again and would have no hesitation in recommending it.
