With beautiful sea views and located in the centre of the traditional seaside town of Torquay Sunnybank is perfect for a family break.

Sunny Bank is a well-equipped and comfortable ’reverse level’ holiday home which takes advantage of the wonderful sea views over Lyme Bay and the coastline from the living room. The semi-detached property has been decorated and furnished to a good standard. There is an enclosed garden and a conservatory downstairs, perfect for a quiet moment. There is so much to do in the English Riviera including the beach which is less than 1 mile from the property. Visit the shops in Torquay, or take a trip to Shaldon and Teignmouth; both have wonderful beaches and some amazing walks. Visit the small zoo in Shaldon or go crabbing off the side of the beach. Nearer to home there are the model village, museum and Babbacombe Theatre, and there are many National Trust properties. Cycling, walking, bird watching and sailing are all available close by. Dartmoor, with its famous ponies, dramatic landscapes, abundance of wildlife and the South Devon coast offer superb days out. Historic Dartmouth, and Salcombe with its beaches and sailing, are also easily accessible. There is so much on offer in Devon, and for Agatha Christie fans, there are many places to visit, including The Grand Hotel where a few of her novels were written; Greenway, her family home; and Tor Abbey Sands, which are all worth visiting. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

    There were positives and negatives to our stay at Sunnybank. The location was good, approx 10 minutes walk to Babbacombe cliff front where there were several nice pubs, Babbacombe Inn served a lovely steak sizzler. The bay at Oddicombe is lovely (rocky beach with bits of sand) accessible by railway lift or steep walk. Torquay town centre is about 15 mins away by car, Brixham 20 mins. Sunnybank itself has lovely views of the sea, the house is a bit dated. We were dissapointed with the cleanliness, it’s a dog friendly property, we didn’t have a dog but found there were dog hairs everywhere, especially in the double bedroom! The fridge kept opening and the freezer was really hard to open. This needs replacing along with the cooker. It took over an hour to cook something that should’ve taken 20 mins. The garden is lovely, we enjoyed some lovely teas out there.

    Not in our opinion dog friendly. On the positive side only 7 minutes walk to Babbacombe Downs good for dog walkers and a few dog friendly pubs for a thirsty dog walker.

    two tips did not have any proper full address on our paper work. we had to go onto google to find it.also the floors under the beds could do with a good clean.other than that we had a lovely holiday.ie next doors dog can get through the fence.which id didand left us a mess.the lady did clean it up.

    The cottage was too high up from the sea front. It was equipped with pots , pans , cutlery and towels. But there was only ONE tea towel, and ONE toilet roll, NO bleach we had to go out and buy our own. The bathroom flooded twice in the week we were there. I would definitely NOT go back there.

    Response on behalf of the owner; Unfortunately the height of the property as regards to the sea is something that can neither be changed nor adapted to the guest’s likings. However this height does result in a magnificent view over Lyme Bay. Sunnybank is a self catering holiday accommodation. It is advertised as such. That means that things for everyday’s life like food, drink, and cleaning products are not provided. That is the guest’s responsibility. The presence of pots, pans and cutlery is of course essential in a self catering holiday home. We always make sure one toilet roll is present for arriving guests. In addition we provide a welcome packet consisting of tea, coffee, teacakes, milk and sugar. Apart from the provisions on arrival we provide towels and bath towels for 6 persons as an extra service to our guests. The absence of bleach must be reassuring for guests with small children. Cleaners are insistently advised not to leave products like bleach on places where children can reach them. In the kitchen are two tea towels, a roll of dispensable cloth, washing up liquid, several cleaning products (Ajax and Vim) and something to clean the griddle. These products are not dangerous to small children. After the flushing system of the toilet broke down there was some water on the bathroom floor. This was reported to the caretaker who immediately came down with a bunch of flowers for any inconvenience and of course to clean the bathroom floor. This was in the evening. Next day the maintenance man came over at 8.30 hour to repair the toilet. As this proved to be a big, time consuming job the guests were instructed how to use the toilet without any problems. The guests agreed with the maintenance man that now they knew how to use the toilet, immediate action was not necessary. This would mean the toilet would be out of use for part of the day and the water would be switched off. Also the flushing system had recently been inspected by a plumber.

    Its outdated building with no provision to what it says. unfit for dogs and very cold and damp.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Sorry to hear that the tenants stay in Devon did not work out as expected or hoped for. The exceptionally strong eastern winds late March / early April causing the central heating system to take much more time to make the place comfortable than the usual 15 minutes it needs certainly didn't help to enhance the holiday feeling. The list of facilities mentioned on the website is in accordance with the actual facilities in the house. Dogs are welcome at Sunnybank however we do not provide towels for them. The weather may have obscured the wonderful view of Lyme Bay
