Description

Located between Sidmouth and Lyme Regis, this single-storey cottage couldn’t be in a better location for discovering the Jurassic Coast.

Situated along the historic Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, these delightful holiday properties (refs UKC1368, UKC1370- UKC1377 and UKC1379) provide the perfect base from which to explore east Devon. Stoneleigh Village offers single-storey semi-detached and detached cottages, which have been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. Each property has patio doors leading to a private sitting-out area, ideal for al fresco dining, and refs UKC1371, UKC1375, UKC1376 overlook the Jurassic Coast. The holiday park itself occupies a beautiful, elevated position and sits charmingly between the Regency town of Sidmouth, and the picturesque harbour town of Lyme Regis. The stunning scenery and dramatic coastal path offers visitors a fantastic journey through its unique landscape.
The Jurassic Coast lies within the unspoilt countryside of east Devon, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its alluring sheltered beaches provide a wonderful secluded retreat. Absorb the breathtaking views of rugged cliffs, award-winning beaches, seaside towns and fishing villages. Sidmouth’s shingle bay is surrounded by dramatic red cliffs, whilst the town itself boasts around 500 listed buildings, affectionately earning the title of ’The Regency Town by the Sea’. The Donkey Sanctuary, a popular tourist attraction, lies within a short walk, and there are many attractions close by including Seaton Tramway, Pecorama, considered by many to be the finest 7¼ inch gauge railway in Britain, Lulworth Cove Visitor Centre and many Nationa Trust properties. Sailing, water sports and cycling are available locally. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Snowdrop is in a lovely location with both Sidmouth and Beer within 15 minutes in either direction. Shops, beaches and lovely walks in easy reach. The accommodation is well planned out, spacious and well-equipped. We stayed at Snowdrop over Christmas 2017 and it was perfect. Unfortunately having stayed for the same period this past Christmas, the cottage has had some serious water damage to the front (following a rather bad storm we were told), meaning part of one inside wall in the lounge was not in very good condition. Furthermore the cottage had clearly not been used for a period of time as - despite the heating being turned on in the morning ahead of our arrival - it took a very long tine to warm through and the first evening of showers/jacuzzis caused significant condensation on the floor (cue my mother-in-law declaring ‘its like an ice rink’..!). Additionally, and despite being told the previous year that access to our cottage and the building work behind our cottage would be complete within several weeks, on our return visit there was no change at all. Whilst you don’t see this from inside the cottage (assuming you keep the bedroom curtains closed), it really does need attention. A bit of work to finish the rest of the site and repairs to Snowdrop definitely needed before we return - and we would like to come back! This is reflected in the lower overall score and value for money.

The location is good in being close to the Donkey sanctuary, which our children loved and we walked in their grounds most days. Otherwise there is nothing in the immediate locality, the reception is not manned and is still a building site. The site is an ongoing building site and was not, we felt safe for children to play. While some care had gone into the fixtures and fittings they have missed the mark in many areas bringing down the feel of the cottage.
