The mill provides an excellent base from which to explore this lovely part of the country. Avebury is nearby with its stone circle which is larger and older than Stonehenge. The 4500-acre Savernake Forest, Cheddar Gorge, Stonehenge, Longleat House and Safari Park, Stourhead Gardens, the historic city of Winchester and the Roman spa and Georgian streets of the city of Bath are all within an hour’s drive. Other places to visit include Oxford, Blenheim Palace and Bowood House and Gardens. The area is perfect for walkers with the Ridgeway and many footpaths along the downs. Shop 2 miles, pub 1 mile, restaurant 800 yards.

Stitchcombe Mill is a delightful venue for a country holiday. I live in the US, but was born just 2 miles from that location & this is the first time have been able to find a rental that close to my "Roots''. One must love the old rustic charm of a mill built in the 1700s and renovated to today's very modern standards without compromising the look & feel of the era. The surrounding river adds so much enjoyment to the stay ; watching salmon jumping and being visited by all kinds of birds, including 2 kingfishers which are so beautiful. The garden is a delight and I am sure even more so if visited in summer. The location is wonderfully close to all of the historical places unique to Wiltshire and if you are an avid walker there are so many places to explore the beautiful countryside. If there is any downside to this magical place it is that there are no small stores in the 2 nearby villages to run to and buy a pint of milk! It takes a major excursion to Marlborough to shop for groceries. Probably not an issue for British visitors, but when traveling from the US one is unable to bring any food with you so an immediate trip to the store is almost imperative. I spent 3 glorious weeks there and would certainly return

An absolutely beautiful holiday cottage. The rooms were all of a fairly equal size, which was perfect for our group. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The real log fire was just lovely and we used it every night. My only point would be to have a little more help with the AGA! Although the book was useful, it was still hard to tell what to cook where and getting the right timings was very difficult.
