Description

Ideal for couples or friends holidaying together. This is an ideal location for exploring Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset.

This beautiful 18th-century mill is set by the side of the river in a picturesque hamlet, only 2 miles from the busy market town of Marlborough. Standing alone in its own secluded gardens with the river running alongside, it is the perfect setting to just get away from it all and relax.
The mill provides an excellent base from which to explore this lovely part of the country. Avebury is nearby with its stone circle which is larger and older than Stonehenge. The 4500-acre Savernake Forest, Cheddar Gorge, Stonehenge, Longleat House and Safari Park, Stourhead Gardens, the historic city of Winchester and the Roman spa and Georgian streets of the city of Bath are all within an hour’s drive. Other places to visit include Oxford, Blenheim Palace and Bowood House and Gardens. The area is perfect for walkers with the Ridgeway and many footpaths along the downs. Shop 2 miles, pub 1 mile, restaurant 800 yards.

An absolutely beautiful holiday cottage. The rooms were all of a fairly equal size, which was perfect for our group. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The real log fire was just lovely and we used it every night. My only point would be to have a little more help with the AGA! Although the book was useful, it was still hard to tell what to cook where and getting the right timings was very difficult.

Great venue close to Marlborough. Stitchcombe Mill is absolutely beautiful residence. I would like to make a special mention about Denise the lady who manages the property - she is lovely, helpful with lots of local knowledge and lives close by for anything you may need - logs for the amazing open fire, good local restaurants and pubs etc.

My family stayed here over our American Thanksgiving break. It was my 13 year old twins' first time travelling abroad. This house was heavenly perfection. We all loved everything about it. Coming downstairs on a chilly (snowy!) morning to the warm Aga. Evenings curled up in the living room with a fire going and something yummy cooking in the Aga. Heaven! The setting is beyond lovely. The wild life attracted by the mill water was entertainment in itself. Gorgeous pheasants, cute moorhens and a pair of swans that came everyday. Now we need to come back in the summer and see what it is like then! Denise was a wonderful caretaker of us - helpful and lovely. And if the owner of Stitchcombe ever wants to sell - we will take it and emigrate!!

Absolutely fabulous cottage in an amazing location. It was a lovely touch that essential groceries such as tea, coffee, dishwasher tablets etc. were provided. Denise the caretaker was very friendly and approachable. We loved sitting in the kitchen watching the brown trout leap into the air or watching the kingfisher fly up and down the river. A beautiful cottage, which was very comfy and somewhere we definitely would love to stay at again.

Summer 2018 we went to Stichcombe and spent 2 wonderful weeks at Stichcombe Mill. We had a terrific time there, mainly because we got so well looked after by lovely Denise. We got a very warm welcome, got delicious treats and we found ourselves in a very clean and cozy house. It felt like home away from home, for we found food basics already in the fridge for a breakfast the next morning. Denise is a very warmhearted person. She was helpful from the start and gave us great recommendations, for example Littlecote House. It was great fun chatting with her and her lovely friend Michelle. Both are very diligent girls and taking very good care of the house. Thank you, Denise & Michelle. Surely we are coming back.
