Stokesley is situated on the River Leven and there is a walk from one end of Stokesley to the other by the river. This walk passes by the old Pack Horse Bridge (dates back to the 17th century) which gives access to the high street. Over the last few years, the high street in Stokesley has become a lively and cosmopolitan shopping, leisure and dining experience. There are now around nine coffee shops which all open for morning coffee, lunch time snacks and afternoon tea. There are a variety of takeaway food offerings, together with restaurants and pubs open for lunch and evening meals serving a wide choice and variety of food. In the high street, there is a diversity of local shops for daily supplies of meat, bread/cakes, newspapers and vegetables, together with supermarkets, a chemist and a local department store which stocks a large selection of goods. There is also a variety of small individual shops selling unusual goods. There are several ladies and gents hairdressers, beauty shops, podiatry, fashion shops, art gallery, charity shops and lots more. Within a 10-minute walk from the property, is the local leisure centre which has a swimming pool, gym, sauna, squash/badminton courts and offers gym classes.

The property is within a 30-minute drive from the coast, Redcar and Saltburn, and 45 minutes from Whitby with its abbey standing at the top of the 199 steps. Helmsley is a 30-minute drive where you will find Helmsley Castle with its walled garden, and in the centre during spring/summer, it is a stop off and meeting point for motorbike owners and where people come to view the huge variety and models of motorbike.

Northallerton is a market town and is about a 20-minute drive. This is a bustling market town, with markets on Wednesday and Saturday. There are shopping arcades, restaurants and coffee shops, one of the famous being Betty’s. Following on from Northallerton is Thirsk, the home of James Herriot’s TV show, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Visit his museum and take a walk around the town with its variety of individual shops.
