Description

Station Farm Cottage is perfect for couples looking for a relaxing break within the quiet village of Wennington, close to the Yorkshire and Cumbrian borders.

Located in the quiet Lancashire village of Wennington, close to the Yorkshire and Cumbrian borders, Station Farm Cottage is perfect for couples seeking a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s home and nestled alongside the River Wenning, this attractive stone built cottage offers comfortable and spacious accommodation. The well-equipped kitchen/dining room, with oil fired range, leads through into a cosy living room with a welcoming wood burner, which is perfect for those colder, winter nights. Upstairs is a large double bedroom and family bathroom. Outside is a furnished patio and guests are also welcome to enjoy the owners extensive garden which includes a very unique feature – a sunken patio which once housed the railway turn table.
The cottage is near to Wennington railway station, which operates services into Lancaster and Skipton, as well as Leeds and Morecambe. The village is also only a 15-minute drive from the M6 motorway, making the cottage an ideal touring base. The charming market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is just 6 miles away and here you will find a good selection of shops and cafés. It is famous for its Dickensian Christmas market, but is thriving all year round. A wider range of amenities can be found in the city of Lancaster, just 11 miles away. With around 70 pubs and restaurants within a 10-mile radius of the cottage, there are plenty of opportunities for eating and drinking out with your loved one.
Perfect for those who love to stay active, there are some lovely walks within the area. For those who like a challenge, why not take on Yorkshires famous Three Peaks, a 26-mile walk around Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is just a 15-minute drive away, and half an hour’s drive will take you into Cumbria’s stunning Lake District. Cyclists are also well catered for, with lots of quiet country lanes and cycle paths available to try. Mountain bikers will particularly enjoy the trails around Lancashire’s Gisburn Forest, or Grisedale Forest in the Lake District. For guests who have their own bicycles, bike storage is available on site.
Other activities available locally include golf, fishing and climbing as well as caving and potholing around some of the fantastic caves in the area. White Scar Caves at Ingleton are the UKs largest show caves and are just 7 miles away.
Apart from the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, there are other places of interest within easy access, including the Forest of Bowland (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and Lancashire’s Ribble Valley, with its delightful scenery, pretty villages and welcoming country pubs. For those who prefer a coastal landscape, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast are within an hour’s drive.
So, whether you are here for an active holiday, a relaxing break or simply visiting family and friends, Station Farm Cottage has something to offer everyone. Shop 1½ miles, pub ½ mile and restaurant 7 miles.

We stayed at Wennington for the first time. The owners Jackie and Willis were most accommodating and could not do enough for us. If we want another holiday in the Yorkshire Dales, we will certainly return to this cottage.

We loved our stay at Station Farm Cottage. We stayed over Christmas and it certainly delivered the 'get away from it all' break that we hoped for. Warm and cosy with plenty of hot water, it had just about everything we needed. The bottle of wine was very welcome. Willis and Jackie couldnt have been more welcoming and helpful. Wennington is a lovely village and we and our dog enjoyed walking along the river. The Tatham Bridge Inn is walkable, but we didnt walk there as there are no pavements and the traffic was going a tad too fast! It is a great base to explore the area and we would definitely choose to stay here again.
