Oak cottage is a compact but perfectly formed hideaway. It is in the grounds of the main house just a few yards away. There is a nice garden area leading from the kitchen space which is not overlooked at all. A nice touch is the bistro set, although we didn't get chance to use it due to the changeable weather. Inside as you enter the front door is the open plan lounge and kitchen. The lounge area is complete with 2 comfy leather armchairs, large pouffe, TV, gas fuelled 'log' burner, radiators and a coffee table. More than adequate for 2 people, but not a lot of room for a very large dog bed. The kitchen is well equipped with a good gas cooker, microwave, toaster, and little fridge freezer together with a good assortment of China, cutlery and utensils. A welcoming touch was the supply of teabags, milk etc as well as some lovely Welsh cakes. So nice after a long journey and very much appreciated. The bedroom is a good size with nice lighting and good furniture with plenty of space for your suitcase contents. Very thoughtfully a power socket has been installed by the dressing table. Hooray. Essential but so often overlooked. The bathroom is gorgeous with good size shower cubicle and corner bath. Lots of room to dry and dress yourself. Again, a thoughtful touch in that there is liquid soap provided in both bathroom and kitchen. The entire cottage was sparkling clean and welcoming. The nearest beach to us was Amroth a few miles away. I suppose if you were fit you could walk it, but I'm afraid we didn't. There's a lovely dog friendly beach, a shop, a couple of cafes (The Pirate is a must....lovely staff and good food at a reasonable price) and pubs. Not a lot of parking available though, better mid week. A few miles further on is Saundersfoot which is similar vibe but bigger. Fish and chips on the harbour were delicious. We thoroughly recommend Oak Cottage as an ideal base to explore this lovely area.
