Description

Step back in time as you gaze at the abbey ruins and enjoy a relaxing break surrounded by countryside and footpaths.

Enjoy a relaxing holiday surrounded by countryside in these barn conversions which have been decorated and fitted to a very good standard. They are situated on the owners’ working arable farm, and guests are welcome to use the footpaths crossing the farmland. Take a few steps back in time to the year of 1193 AD when you view the abbey ruins, once bustling with French monks. During the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII had many stones removed from the abbey to build his fortifications at Deal and Walmer. Follow in the monks’ footsteps, (today a 20 minute car journey), and take a trip to Canterbury. Dover is 5 minutes’ drive, ideal for day trips to France or to visit its castle and admire the famous white cliffs. The properties are perfectly situated for walking and bird watching, with several good sandy beaches close by. Monks & Flint barns are adjoining. Barn is detached. Shop 1½ miles, pub 2 miles.

All on ground floor. 2 steps up to living room with French door/dining room with wooden floor/kitchen with tiled floor. 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin with additional pull-out single (5ft 9in long). Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Low beams throughout.

Woodburner in living room included. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair on request. Digital TV. DVD/CD and small library. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi.Telephone-on request. Sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. Please note: Unfenced pond 50 yards. This property has a security deposit of £250 (Christmas and New Year).

We can’t think of a single thing that could be improved. We felt welcomed and the owner was really helpful when we asked to borrow the wheelchair. The manual of information was really comprehensive and given the special nature of the place it was very interesting to read its history. The accommodation was spotless and had everything we could have wanted, and a number of things that other excellent properties hadn’t thought of - little things like a notebook and pen, that were useful. We loved the place.

We stayed 4 nights at Monks Barn and found it an absolute delight, fitted out tastefully to be in keeping with the barn and it's farm origins, but with all the modern conveniences, lovely and light more than spacious enough for 4, well equipped and comfortable inside, outside seating very handy for breakfast outside each day, loungers and bbq available. lovely location, very peaceful but not far in the car to lots of interesting places. Sue was lovely very helpful as was her black folder with all sorts of useful information including some history on the farm, family and abbey. Lovely setting with nice country walks too, I could really go on and on. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there were so many places to see but we could easily have just had a very relaxing holiday staying at the barn and lazing in the sun. We didn't need the wood burning stove as it was very warm, but would definitely have made use of it if it had been colder.

Another brilliant stay at St Radiguns Abbey. These are by far the best equipped cottages we have stayed in. They are tucked away so car is essential, nothing close by, but the quiet is just wonderful. Dog walks all around the cottages, ducks and a visiting heron, lots of other wildlife...these are perfect to relax with family. Great owner who makes sure everything is perfect, bottle of wine, milk in fridge, tea bags and biscuits on the table to welcome you, log fire made up, super welcome! we will be back!

Overall, a very pleasant and peaceful place to stay, loving the greetings we received on our arrival!! A really beautiful place to stay, everything is in place, and so very easy to reach the local places of interest. A big thank you for a wonderful holiday stay. One small thing was the shower bracket, way too high, maybe fit a rising slide bar.....

We had a wonderful stay in a very well and beautiful equipped holiday cottage. When we arived there was a welcome-tray waiting for us with a bottle of wine, cookies and Coffeetabs... what a great start to our holidays :-) ! We were welcomed very friendly and also our dog was fine - even if there was no fence she could lay outside the cottage on a long lead and was very happy about it.
