On the site of an ancient burial ground, discover Pictish ruins, castles, cairns and standing stones during your stay at this luxurious farmhouse.

Surrounded by farmland, beautiful scenery and wildlife, this traditional, spacious farmhouse, accessed by a rough track, is perfect for friends and family who want to relax and spend a holiday together in this majestic setting. The farmhouse at St Fink dates back to 1860, but that is only the start of the estate’s history. In the heart of rural Perthshire, St Fink is thought to derive its name from St Finaca or Findoce. There is believed to have been an ancient chapel on the estate belonging to Cupar Angus Abbey. It was named after the saint and dates back to around 720 AD, but unfortunately no remains are visible today. A burial ground surrounded the chapel and in the late 18th century a number of skulls were found here, encased between 4 square stones to hold them in place. Small coins and inverted urns were also discovered. This area has archaeological sites in abundance from Pictish remains with cairns and forts to stone circles and standing stones.

Fishing is available free of charge just 15 minutes walk at a private loch, and a private stretch of the River Isla, with brown and blue trout. The River Ericht and the River Tay are widely considered as the best salmon rivers in Scotland. The hills and glens of Perthshire make it the ideal location for riding and hill walking, with the Cateran Trail close by. For serious walkers and Munro ‘baggers’ then hike up Ben Vrackie, Beinn a’Ghlo or Glas Tulaichean, to name but a few in the area. It is an ideal location for golfers, with five 18-hole and two 9-hole courses all within 5 miles, including the championship Rosemount course at Blairgowrie Golf Club. Further afield, the world-famous courses at Gleneagles, and the historic St Andrews Links, are both 36 miles distant. Winter skiing is available at Glenshee Ski Centre just 27 miles away.
Whatever you choose to do during your stay you can rest-assured that the luxury of St. Fink Farmhouse awaits your return. The large farmhouse-style kitchen is immaculately fitted and has an open plan dining area allowing the whole party to enjoy dinner together. If you’re not already worn out, why not have a game of pool in the games room to round off the day? Later, sink into a bubble bath in the claw-foot bath before putting your feet up and relaxing in front of the wood-burning stove. There is an abundance of leisurely walks in the countryside from the front door, and after a day exploring the area and all it has to offer, guests can relax in the garden and admire the panoramic view or pick fresh fresh fruit (free of charge, in season) from the garden. Blairgowrie is 3 miles, Perth 19 miles, Dundee 23 miles and Edinburgh airport 59 miles and even a beach 28 miles, all make this the perfect destination for the whole family. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

This house was booked for a family 80th birthday celebration for 10 of us. The house was ideal with lovely large rooms and plenty of space for everyone, including the dog. The house was spotlessly clean and the beds and linen so comfortable. The kitchen was perfect for family gatherings in the evening when/if we were unable to sit outside. The garden is large and has a lovely summer house looking over the views. The hot tub was well used and thoroughly enjoyed but smaller than we had anticipated. (We were informed that the larger one was in the process of being fixed). On arrival we were greeted with a couple of bottles of wine and strawberries and flowers. A really lovely and much appreciated gesture. I would certainly recommend this property. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week. However, there are a couple of things that I feel need mentioned: The initial approach to the property is unsettling; my first thought being 'what have we done?' The wall is falling over and there is no gate to the property to keep dogs in - ours stayed in but we had a couple of unknown visitors. We had no luck finding the fishing - 'a fifteen minute walk'. We walked for an hour before finding any water, which certainly wasn't suitable for fishing. The kitchen, although wonderful for a large family gathering is very poorly stocked for 10 people. There was an array of different glasses, with few wine glasses, tumblers or flutes. I can't imagine we were the only ones hiring this house for a celebration. An Aunt brought over glasses for us on the day for our 80th birthday celebration! The saucepan range was random with no proper fitting lids and made cooking for 10 quite a process. Nothing seemed to have a place. There were bits and pieces in all sorts of drawers and cupboards. Plenty of plates/mugs!! There was a lack of instructions for equipment, with none being found for the bbq. The tv room needs reviewing as there were plenty of cables but none that fitted the equipment for re-charging. A lock on the bathroom door of the en-suite would be nice. As a dog owner, we arrived with piles of clean fleeces and blankets to cover furniture, having received a lovely email telling us that we could have the dog in the bedroom with us. On arrival we were greeted with signs on the walls and in the visitors book saying no dogs upstairs and gates at the bottom to ensure they stayed downstairs. A bit confusing to say the least. Also an awful lot of unneccessary blankets and fleeces driven a 1000ml round trip. On a plus to end, I would certainly recommend this property. Denisa replied to emails and gave me her telephone number should we need it. It was a lovely week and a very lovely house. Yes, I would book it again.

We had a fab time. Our stay was part of 70th Birthday celebratiins for my husband. The only criticism was that there was no kindling for the log stove. Even with firelighters it wasn't easy to get the fire going. It was a godsend as the rest of the house was cold even with the central heating at full. Suspect the house hadn't been occupied for a while. However, we just wore extra layers and the positives outweighed the negatives.
