Squirrel Cottage sits serenely within the historic grounds of Bargaly Estate. The cottage takes its name from the regular sightings of red squirrels seen here. The cottage is the former lodge house to the Bargaly Estate set in the beautiful Bargaly Glen. Bargaly was once the home of the famous horticulturist Andrew Heron and dates back to 1675. The estate feels like a million miles from anywhere, yet Newton Stewart is within a 5-mile drive. The area is a wildlife haven for deer, red squirrels, and birds and their presence just makes a holiday here feel very special. For fishermen daily and weekly fishing permits can be purchased from the estate manager for fishing the estate’s 5½ mile stretch of the Palnure Burn. Shop, pub and restaurant 5 miles
