Visit Hilltop Farm near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her stories, or take a trip to Hawkshead where there is a gallery dedicated to her original drawings and illustrations. Take a trip across Lake Windermere on the leisurely steamer, which connects with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall all within easy reach. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton is a wonderful day out for all the family, as is the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside and Muncaster Castle with its extensive gardens.
