Spout Crag Boathouse is tastefully and comfortably furnished throughout, boasting a light and airy living room opening on to a large balcony overlooking the lake and surrounding fells.
A host of Lakeland attractions can be found nearby, including many of Wordsworth’s inspirational locations - his home, Dove Cottage, is open to the public all year. Grizedale Forest, with its Go Ape high wire adventure course, Grasmere and Ambleside are all close by. Visit Hilltop Farm near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her stories, or take a trip to Hawkshead where there is a gallery dedicated to her original drawings and illustrations. Take a trip across Lake Windermere on the leisurely steamer, which connects with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall all within easy reach. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton is a wonderful day out for all the family, as is the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside and Muncaster Castle with its extensive gardens. My wife and I have been to this property 3 times so far and for a week each time in December this year and last. The view is exceptional and, whilst it is obviously better if the weather is good, it’s so nice and cosy and has the large windows that allow you to relax and look across the lake no matter what conditions appertain. Bowness-on-Windermere is within an hour’s walk and has most of what you need - although it’s best to time your outings to be back in the light as there are no footpaths for most of the way. We took our e-bikes this year and cycled down to the ferry and then along the far side of the lake to Ambleside which was very pleasant. We also took advantage of the 48hour pass on the Windermere Lake boats to have relaxing tours of the lake. The area is certainly much quieter at this time of year and that means no queues for anything, so easy to get into tea shops and other attractions. The boathouse itself is very well appointed and we ate in most days. It is quiet and comfortable and I was able to get a strong 4G mobile signal so that I could make calls and download data with no trouble. It is quite a struggle to take things up and down the steps to / from the car parking area at the roadside but we were well aware of this from previous visits; although quite an effort it was good to be able to lock our bikes away in the boathouse area below the living accommodation when they were not being used. I’m pretty sure we will visit here again - you can’t help but relax and wind down.

Peace and quiet is great and a get away from phones & emails but usual lakes weather spending more time in is fine with a great view but with limited tv channels & no WiFi is a must.

Excellent place to stay. I have only put that we wouldnt stay here again because we don't stay anywhere twice as we like to try something new each time. Superb location, beautiful views, nice warm, spacious property with good facilities. Shame about the lack of internet and the breakfast bowls were far too small for a normal bowl of cereal so we ended up having breakfast in Pyrex jugs!! Minor blemishes on an otherwise fantastic place to stay.

Wonderful cottage, very well equipped, fantastic position on the lake with great views; some blinds would have been great as west facing, was very hot in late afternoon, evenings. A dinghy to use would have been the icing on the cake!
