Lovely cottage and garden, nicely restored in a very friendly village. Sadly the whole stay was ruined by an unbearable smell of dogs (and in places dog wee). The owners were quick to respond when we raised it and explained that this was due to a previous long term rental who had four dogs. However the plugins they provided and one spray of Fabreze was never going to resolve the problem. Luckily the weather was good and we could leave the windows and doors open most of the time, which helped but unfortunately we still couldn't bear to eat in the house as the smell was that strong. With hindsight we should have moved, but being such short notice (and the half term holiday) we struggled to find a suitable alternative, so ended up staying. We were disappointed that the owners didn't follow up on the issue or make any further attempts to resolve it (without being prompted). Spindleberry is a really nice property that we would love to stay in again but only after the owners have addressed the problem and totally replaced the carpets and rugs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; The Owner wishes to respectfully point out that she responded to the complaint by spraying the whole house with Febreze, placing electronic air fresheners in each room and opening all the windows which were closed. No further comments were received from the guests until they advised after the fact that they had been forced to drive to Sainsbury’s where they purchased four bottles of Shake’nVac. The Owner wished they had asked her first and naturally offered to reimburse their expenses. This was rejected and a demand made for compensation which was immediately paid. Upon their departure the Owner had the rugs destroyed and the carpets professionally cleaned and sprayed with an anti-bacterial spray.

We loved this cottage, very cosy and welcoming. Bakery, pub and shop all in easy reach. The only negative was the shower or lack of it! My husband is tall and found the shower over bath abit restricting.
