Description

The living room has arched full-length windows that open to the front patios where stunning views can be enjoyed.

This detached family holiday home is surrounded by wonderful views. The interior is welcoming, well laid out and extremely cosy with full oil central heating and double glazing with a wood burner in the living area. The living room and main bedroom have arched full-length windows that open to front patios and hill views. The property is strategically situated for a wide range of outdoor activities. Running alongside the river (150 yards) is the site of the old Speyside railway now part of the Speyside Way, a delightful long distance walk running from the Moray coast to Aviemore. There are many other great walks for all abilities. Trout and salmon fishing (permit only) can be arranged on the Rivers Avon and Spey. There is a 9-hole 18-tee golf course 1 mile away at Ballindalloch with superb courses at Grantown-on-Spey, Nairn and Lossiemouth less than an hour away. Wildlife enthusiasts will have a chance to see the famous ospreys at Boat of Garten and Moray Firth dolphins. Otters are often seen at Loch Spynie and golden eagles in the Findhorn Valley. The surrounding pinewoods are home to red squirrels, crossbills and crested tits. Visit the fairytale Ballindalloch Castle (2 miles) or the ruins of Drumin Castle and its walled garden. Travel a short distance north to sample the wonderful sandy beaches of the Moray Firth around Lossiemouth and Nairn. The malt whisky trail starts close by, with Cragganmore Distillery (tours April to October) less than one mile from the house. Ski resorts at Cairngorm (34 miles) and the Lecht (22 miles) are easily accessible. Co-op and deli at Aberlour (9 miles), large supermarkets in Elgin (25 miles) and Inverness (47 miles). We could not fault the cottage or its contents. A very spacious cottage and there were four adults, two children and one dog sharing the property and with three bathrooms/showers, plus the addition of a separate dining room there was so much space we did feel on top of each other. Unfortunately we had three weeks of near constant rain and we were not able to make use of the garden at all. There would have been several walks available to take the dog, however once again the inclement weather prevented this from happening. The only drawback we found, as a family who are not hikers or sporty, was the fact that we felt miles away from any town or activity. There was a very small distillery within walking distance and a Castle fairly near, however just to pop out for a coffee or a drink was at least 25 minutes away by car. We would still recommend this cottage to people who perhaps would not worry about the isolation.

Lovely setting and a very well equipped house. Ideal for walking the Speyside way as it runs right past the house. No shops nearby and no buses running while we were there. Co-op in Aberlour is closest supermarket and if you go there I would recommend the deli over the road. We would be happy to stay here again.

The house was nice, very clean and in a quite area. Bedlinen, towels and tableware was good. In the kitchen we've used only the cooker and the dishwasher and it works perfect. The mattresses were very soft, but for a week acceptable. Space enough for two couples. But the reason, that we don't want to stay a second time, was, that the house was as cold as a fridge on our arrival. The owner wrote us, that in winter the house would be heated only two hours in the morning and two in the early evening, because heating oil is too expensive. But nobody can expect, that guests sit in an icy-cold house. We hope for the understanding of the owner, that we've heated the house after the second cold day, whenever we stayed in it.

Response on behalf of the owner; We are very concerned to have received this review, especially as the complaint regarding heating control settings is based on a misunderstanding. The default settings are there merely as a guide and can be altered at will - both timings and temperature can easily be adjusted in response to outside temperatures. The information in the welcome pack regarding heating controls has been modified in the light of your comments.
