Our stay at Speedwell was enhanced by great weather, for the time of year (Nov), and that certainly made everything that so much better. The cottage was in a great location however at the time of our visit the local pub was shut awaiting new tenants; a major disappointment. A short drive took you to so many great food and drink venues, all dog-friendly. We tried three and if we did not have the dog with us would have lingered longer at them all sitting on the comfy sofa's in front of the fire with a book & pint (or wine for the lady wife). Each one different Vernon Arms – only a short drive and excellent food and very friendly staff. Try the ‘Black and Tan’ pie highly recommended. Gunton Arms – not far from Cromer and what a location in the middle of a deer farm. Pricey food but worth the experience of the Elk Room. The Red Lion Cromer – How a pub should be. Was a joy to spend lunchtime there. Everything that we needed at the cottage was there and all worked without a hitch with plenty of glasses, crockery & cutlery only requiring us to wash up once using the dishwasher during our stay. The garden was very secure and we had no hesitation in letting our dog go out there without a lead on. Would be a lovely garden for enjoying over the summer months. Many thanks to the owners for the welcome pack especially the milk as we did not bring any with us. If you do forget anything it is only a couple of minutes to the local shop which was very well stocked and not overpriced as you would expect for somewhere with no competition. We certainly made good use of the firewood that was left for the wood burner and for us this was a massive plus as we really enjoyed a couple of nights snuggled up in front of it watching one of the movies from the small DVD/book library thoughtfully left for guests. Just remember to turn the central heating down as you will roast otherwise as the cottage is extremely cosy and warm without the need for a fire. We had a brilliant stay and although only a few days we went home relaxed, refreshed and batteries recharged for the manic festive season ahead. A large part of this due to Speedwell cottage and the good location. Are there any negative points? Yes a couple of minor things but far outweighed by the positives and nothing we could not deal with or worth mentioning. I am sure those picky people on “Four in a Bed” might find something but we were more concerned with enjoying our time than checking the top of wardrobes etc.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay, we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the cottage and your stay. We are also very pleased to advise that the local pub (The Crown) is now under new management, it has also had a major makeover, will also be serving food, and is now open.

This is a very comfortable cottage in a very friendly village. There were issues about cleanliness but after speaking to the owner Denise she has assured me that things will definitely be improved. Because of this we will go again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We had an issue with previous guest’s dogs on the carpet and curtains - both have since been deep cleaned, and the rug has been replaced. We are planning to replace the carpet throughout the downstairs with Kardean Flooring in the New Year to stop this happening again.

Very good equipment in the cottage and quite dog friendly. Sadly the local pub (literally around the corner) no longer served food, which meant a drive to eat out. Walks on the door step and lovely sandy beaches within short drives. Useful village shop around the corner.

This is a lovely cottage in a quiet location in the centre of a village with the convenience of a local shop within easy walking distance. There is a blue flag, sandy beach (lifeguard patrolled in the summer months) only 2 miles away down a country lane. Cycling is a pleasure due to the local "quiet lanes" scheme and the lack of hills!! We enjoyed our stay so much that the first thing that I did on returning home was to book it again for next year.

A lovely cottage in a very pleasant and friendly village. Very picturesque, ideally situated for the beaches and travelling to a range of places. Peaceful and quiet. Lots of places to go to. Plenty of parking for our large car. House was a good size for three adults and two dogs. Garden was secure and nice for sitting in.

We enjoyed a wonderful family holiday at Speedwell Cottage. The only initial disappointment was that the Pub next door no longer serves food which was frustrating. The cottage is well situated for trips to the beach, Broads and Norwich which filled our week.

The cottage was set in manicured, matured, enclosed gardens. There was a well equipped kitchen, with a utility room off to the side. We were greeted with a tea tray and a bottle of wine. The steps were very steep, leading to a good size double and a twin. Bathroom was spacious, with a large walk in shower. Great parking, enough for two cars. On the surface it was fantastic but was let down only by the level of cleanliness, in particular the conservatory roof blinds and the inside of the airing cupboard. If you are over five foot five, don't forget to duck down through the upstairs doorframes.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are really pleased that you enjoyed the charms of speedwell cottage, we have asked the cleaning company to address the insects trapped in the conservatory roof blinds and to dust the airing cupboard. We hope that these minor details did not spoil your enjoyment and hope that you feel that you could pay a return visit.
