Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Guests of all ages to Southwood will find plenty to do, with beaches, museums, family attractions and historic sites all within easy reach.

This well-presented, detached chalet bungalow offers a comfortable base for families or couples, and is located in a quiet residential area, with private drive and an enclosed garden that surrounds the property on three sides. It is conveniently situated near Highcliffe Castle, as seen on the TV series ’Mr Selfridge’, and less than a 15-minute walk from the beach and Highcliffe town centre. The popular priory town of Christchurch, with its bustling harbour and waterside dining, is only 3 miles away, as is Mudeford, with a popular beach where there is a ferry that runs from the quay to neighbouring Christchurch and to Mudeford Sandbanks, a spot of land adjoining Hengistbury Head. Mudeford Quay is a calm area of water and is popular for sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts. Stanpit Marsh is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the wetlands are popular for birdwatching. There is a pleasant promenade linking the quay with the beach, which is ideal for swimming, windsurfing and boat trips across the Solent. Other activities include fishing, kayaking, boat hire and browsing artworks at the local art galleries.
Bournemouth is about 8 miles away, with its cosmopolitan feel, and has a long pier, beautiful parks and gardens, seaside attractions, a multitude of bars, pubs and eateries, a cinema, theatre, shops and vibrant nightlife, as well as The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), Oceanarium and Russell-Coates Art Gallery and Museum, making it a popular destination for all ages. Bournemouth and Poole are also known for their award winning beaches. Other popular places to visit are Adventure Wonderland, which has one of Europe’s largest hedge mazes, Swanage, Studland Bay, Brownsea Island, Knoll Gardens, Avon Heath Country Park and Furzey Gardens, Salisbury with its medieval cathedral and Marwell Zoo with Peppa Pig World.
Further afield, are Winchester Cathedral, New Forest Otter and Owl Park, Monkey World, The Tank Museum near Wool, Beaulieu Museum, Exbury Gardens and the New Forest National Park, which is only a 15-minute drive, with miles of scenic walks, heathland and where ponies roam freely through the villages! Maritime Southampton, with its nautical interest, also has ferry trips over to the Isle of Wight and is worth a visit. There are plenty of activities within a 20-minute drive, include surfing, tennis, rambling, cycling, fishing and water sports. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

This property is in an ideal location for visiting both the coast and forest. The house was very spacious and met all the needs of our three-generation party. There was so much for the grandchildren (13,12,11,8) to do in the area - crabbing, swimming, fruit picking, visiting Beaulieu and Paultons Park - and they, together with the adults, enjoyed a very memorable stay.

Southwood is a large, practical family home. Though slightly dated, the fundamentals are great - comfy beds, shower, well appointed kitchen, wifi. Would recommend for families.

A nice clean detached bungalow comfortable and in a quiet location. There is a great pub just down the road with a really good restaurant. A number of other places to eat are within easy reach. Only a couple of miles from Christchurch and about 10 miles from Bournemouth which has lots to do and a great beach. There are plenty of other attractions in the area. We had a great break and would certainly consider another visit in the future.

Very comfortable bungalow in an ideal location. Everything provided with instant unlimited hot water so showering for 6 people no problem.

An excellent location for visiting Bournemouth and The New Forest. Softer beds and towels would have been appreciated.
