This was one of the best houses we have ever stayed in. Absolutely beautiful, setting in a wonderful garden, everything we needed in the house, and the owner had left a cake and food and wine for us.

Our first time as a family booking a cottage for a short break and we were unsure what to expect. The cottage and grounds were beautiful and we all had a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The unexpected extra touches from Pauline were very much appreciated and made our children’s Easter break extra special.

Excellent holiday cottage, second visit. Fantastic welcome pack, thank you for the delicious cherry and almond cake and other goodies. Lovely location, plenty of birds and squirrels in the garden. Owner so thoughtful, couldn't get out due to snow one day, she checked we were warm enough and had food. Will definitely stop again.

The cottage is almost perfect and could only by improved by some curtains in the bedroom.

Southwood lodge is a clean , comfortable, fabulous cottage to stay in. We were made to feel very welcome - wine, cripspie cakes and a chocolate halloween treasure hunt for the kids. Not to mention a lovely chocolate cake in the form of a spider for actual Halloween! Kitchen is well equipped and bathrooms and bedrooms had everything we needed. There were games and dvd's for us to use and a wifi code for our tablets. We will definitely stay here again as we didn't see half the things we planned to. Beamish museum is a must! It was lovely to come home after a day's exploring to such a nice place. Thank you, and see you again.

We had a lovely holiday in this spacious, quiet and comfortable cottage. We did not see the owners but they had provided wine and various good food including a home made chocolate cake.

Second visit to this cottage, extremely comfortable and well set up. Cleanliness second to no other cottage we have visited. It is an ideal location to access both north east England and southern Scotland. Plenty to see and discover in the area.
