Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Located amongst many little country villages, Southlands Cottage is the perfect place to spend quality time with all the family.

Southlands Cottage is located on the edge of Bourton-on-the-Water, in the heart of the Cotswolds. This three bedroom cottage, adjacent to the owners home, with private parking, is in an ideal location to explore the village centre, which is only a few minutes walk away and boasts an array of traditional gift shops, pubs and tea rooms. Birdland is only 500 yards from the property and is home to a collection of penguins and exotic birds. The Dragonfly Maze offers a huge hedge maze of puzzles and clues that the whole family can try to solve. Take a look at the village’s past in miniature form, and see how it once was in 1937 at the Model Village. River Windrush meanders through the centre of the village with areas of shaded greens to enjoy a picnic. There is so much more to discover in the neighbouring Cotswolds quintessential towns and villages, with Stow-on-the-Wold only 4 miles away, Moreton-in-Marsh just 8½ miles away, and the surrounding villages of Northleach, The Rissingtons and The Slaughters all close by. What an ideal spot for a very relaxing family holiday. The cottage was so comfortable, well equipped and in easy reach of all the local attractions. Christine and David were very welcoming and happy to be of any help if we had needed it. Would certainly recommend this place to anyone we know.

The cottage is wonderful right in the middle of the village, the only thing that could be do is a new toaster everything else was perfect.

The cottage is in ideal location, but the cottage itself was very dirty with most kitchen appliances unusable due to grease etc. Many areas had not been cleaned for a very long time, stains on doors, walls, cobwebs. The web site states a welcome pack which we didn't see any sign of. The boiler certificate and carbon moxide monitor were out of date The tv remote control was greasy and sticky and also had no batteries The wardrobe in the upstairs bedroom was full of bedding, towels etc but were just pushed into the wardrobe not neatly folded away.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Having shown the guests around the cottage prior to their stay showing them the layout, each room was available to view which the guests did and said how nice it was. Yet after their stay they complained had they known the bathroom was off the main kitchen they would not have booked the cottage. I fail to understand this as they had previously seen the layout and said it was very nice. The kitchen and utensils were not greasy or dirty, everything in the cottage was thoroughly cleaned by myself and my daily cleaner and we pride ourselves on cleanliness and on scoring maximum rates and returning guests. In readiness for their stay, there was tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits in the kitchen cupboard and fresh milk was in the fridge. The fridge had been defrosted and cleaned the day prior to their stay. As to their comment to the outdated gas certificate and carbon monoxide detector, this was kept at the main house and a copy has been sent to the Agency showing it was current and had been checked and signed five weeks previously. As we are checked by the fire officers on yearly checks, I cannot understand why the guest would say this. I agree that the remote control was minus its batteries but as we do not look inside the control every time a new guest stays, I fail to see how we would see this. As soon as the guest had settled in, they came to the main house and showed it to my husband who responded immediately by placing new batteries - at this point he was asked if all was well. The wardrobe to which the guest refers to upstairs was in fact our store cupboard with spare towels blankets etc. and not a wardrobe. As we live in the door next to the cottage, we spoke to the guest almost daily as they were going out, asking if everything was fine and they said yes, so they had ample time to say if anything was wrong and if so, we would have dealt with it immediately which is our normal procedure. Our visitor’s book is kept on the side in the cottage for visitor’s comments; it shows nothing but very positive comments and many from guests who have returned year after year. We noted that these guests did not put a comment in the book. The guests who were in the cottage prior to these guests have both since returned, and gave us 10 out of 10, one saying it would be eleven if there was such. So I cannot think why this guest made such comments.
