Unique converted railway carriage located on Hayling Island, ideal for a beach holiday.

This super, unique, detached beach house includes two converted railway carriages, one of only a few to be seen along the south coast, and enjoys a fabulous location directly on the seafront. Step onto the pebble beach via your private gate from the enclosed garden, and enjoy miles of pebble/sandy beach – a haven for all ages, including children and dogs all year round! From the front it is deceptive, having been substantially extended, but once you approach the side entrance, the original features can be easily seen. Inside, the traditional carriage doors still remain, and many of the rooms are set inside the former train carriages. Southern Bell offers tastefully styled, light and airy holiday accommodation for families - with an enclosed patio garden, plenty of off-road parking and a short walk from the local shops, eateries/pubs and harbour/sailing club. Hayling Island is renowned for its windsurfing and sailing activities and local paddle - boarding and windsurfing lessons are available close by. Every year there is a national windsurfing event, and a plethora of sailing and nautical activity can be seen along the coastline. Many activities can be enjoyed locally, including golf, cycling, boat trips and scenic walks along the water’s edge or along the South Downs National Park which are within easy reach. Chichester with its beautiful cathedral, festival theatre, pedestrianised shopping, leisure centre, Roman Villa and Goodwood or Fontwell races is definitely worthy of a visit. Visit Portsmouth with waterside dining, ferry trips to the Isle of Wight, designer outlets, leisure facilities, Spinnaker Tower, Historic Dockyard including HMS Victory and the Mary Rose, or the maritime history at Southampton. Winchester, with its cathedral and abbey, and The New Forest are within easy driving distance. Plenty of National Trust homes and gardens can also be discovered nearby. Beach 5 yards. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

All on ground floor: Living room/kitchen with dining area and patio doors. Second living room. 5 bedrooms: 3 double (two 5ft), one with en-suite shower room and toilet, 2 single, one with additional pull-out bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements). Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Having stayed here several times it still has a magic atmospher. Plenty of room for different generations to relax, including the beach. The quality of the linen and furniture is good as well as table wear and cooking implements. One thing that was mention was it would be nice to have a barbecue on site.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was very well appointed, and quite quirky with the carriages theme. The proximity to the sea was a big bonus, with the Isle of Wight on the horizon, and amazing sunrises and sunsets too. The November sunshine helped a lot. We shall certainly recommend it to our friends.

This was our third visit in three years so arriving is very homely now. We've been before for my daughter 18th and our 23rd Wedding Aniversary and this time for a w/e Steampunk event in Gosport The location is fab right on the beach although due to beach banking you need to stand up to see the sea being a low level property. Perfect for dog walking I must have covered nearly 50 miles in the week with my two dogs. Good gravel front for cars (4 should be possible). Bike shed available for storage of extra equipment to avoid leaving it the cottage (although this could be made much more of if the main door opened to store a trailer safely away out of site. The Carriage theme is both fun and different some of fixtures door knobs windows are showing wear now. Two old virgin boxes available one in the lounge carriage with xbox and a slightly newer old box in the kitchen lounge. Bedrooms all functional with one a bit colder due to rad no working and one carriage door not closing fully (but mentioned to the property owner so I'll expect that would be put right quickly as he has with other suggestions we've made over time) If you like to be at a property right near the beach and hear the sea it ticks the boxes although not cheap you do get a nice welcome box and tea/coffer/sugar is generally available plus a number of other nice personal touches. Being on one level may make this property seem ideal for people with some mobility restrictions as it has no stairs but be aware it's a step up to the front door and currently a bigger than normal back step drop to a gravel garden with two nice picnic benches. Where the carriages meet the bedrooms and Kitchen areas there is a one step up to make so be aware if a member of your party has mobility restrictions or has limited vision it can be a trip hazard. The main bedroom toilet/sink arrangement won't suit a large person. The property although right near the beach is generally very quiet with just dog walkers / occasional runners going by to wave at our Husky who likes to sit and watch all like a Merekat. Kitchen all very functional and clean with just the fridge freezer door needing attention as often doesn't close tight first time until pushed. Sitting room lovely and light with this and the lounge carriage allowing for people to split up and read watch different things. We had a mobility scooter with us so stored that in the hall / for charging a bit of a challenge to get in the front door via the step but plenty of room in the hall. So to reach the beach you don't go via the back steps out of the garden but via the front of the house turn right 100 yards and through a good size car park. We're certainly come again in the future if the time/price is right. Jun/Jul would be brilliant if budget allowed with the extra light

Absolutely brilliant on all fronts! High standard of cleanliness. Amenities in the house are awesome, anything from luxury toilet paper, washing up liquid to Xbox, Virgin in both rooms with TV. And the rich hamper as a welcome gift is a pleasant and thoughtful touch. Had to contact owners as a visitor wanted to take pictures of the carriages and the response was imminent. Secured outside space for my two little sausage dogs too. Highly recommended holiday home! Thank you.
