Well what a fantastic house in a fantastic location overlooking the sea. The thing that let it down was the cleanliness the kitchen work surfaces were dirty, the kitchen cupboards were dirty so we had to clean all those and plates etc, the sofa and cushions were full of dog hairs, drawers and cupboards were dusty in the bedrooms and there was still rubbish in the bins in the bathrooms from the previous visitors. We contacted the owner and cleaner-Mary- who came round she was very rude to us and said "what do you expect 4dogs were here " I said that was not our problem! Showed her the dirt on the sofas she said "I'll wipe it over then " she proceeded to wipe it with a dirty dishcloth! She said she would waver the linen fee! My mum and I cleaned the house to our satisfaction and we had a lovely week. It's such a shame as we would like to return but probably won't because of the cleaning situation. The owner needs to visit her property and teach Mary how to clean and some manners!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are very sorry that you found the kitchen work surfaces and bins to be not up to standard, that was an oversight on our part. As a matter of fact, my family and I did stay in our house for a week during August and were able to do some of the deeper cleaning and dusting that, I am sure you understand, is just not possible during a four hour turn-around on busy Saturdays. I do a clean of the kitchen cupboards etc during the winter season every year for that reason. Being a pet-friendly holiday rental does mean that some guests take advantage by having more than the permitted pets or allowing them onto the furniture and again, it is hard to do the extra cleaning that demands in the usual time-frame as this a holiday home rental and not a hotel with a team of chambermaids to sweep through. I have worked with my cleaner for three years now and throughout those three years guests have had high praise for her levels of service and helpfulness. Indeed some have cited her as a highlight of their stay!

We loved our stay at Solas. The weather was fabulous, warm enough to swim. The house is beautiful, wonderful design and so great to spend time in an eco house. It gave us lots of ideas for our move to Ireland.

Beautiful house, lovely views. Have stayed in many cottages across Ireland and have never had to pay for bed linen before!!....other than that it was perfect

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. Sorry you found this unusual, all electricity and hot water is included which is not always the case in self-catering accommodation. I started charging for linen to cover the cost of replacing towels etc. after some were left in a bad state, now I have them laundered professionally.
