"Located just a short drive from the uncrowded Norfolk coastline, these Grade II listed cottages (Owl Cottage ref CSR and Gable End ref CTS) have been lovingly restored provide comfortable holiday accommodation with much character, and Gable End even boasts its own outdoor heated swimming pool. Wells-next-the-Sea lies a mere 6 miles distant and Blakeney is just 8 miles. Walsingham Abbey and Priory, Holkham Hall and the Wells and Walsingham Steam Railway are all within easy reach. Shops 2 miles.

Owl Cottage (CSR) can be booked with Gable End (CTS) to accommodate up to 12 guests."

    Issues with Owl cottage that we found unacceptable. The drain outlet from the kitchen was blocked (outside) with rotting leaves and general detritus – must have been like it for some time – cleared it ourselves. The drain outlet for the downstairs shower room was blocked (shower, basin and washing machine unusable – flooded back into shower tray) – we tried to clear blockage but finally had to contact the property manager (Sunday pm). Plumber came out Tuesday morning and cleared a substantial amount of material from the drain – mostly rotting vegetation – again must have been like it for some time. The kitchen sink tap had an extremely low flow – several minutes just to fill washing bowl. The tap outlet filter was partially blocked which we removed – property manager informed. There was, on arrival, an extremely high level of flies throughout the house – best guess 100. We do not like to use insecticides in the presence of children, so it took a while to swat the flies – on-going for 3 days. Property manager informed but had no satisfactory answer – there may well be a health hazard in the property however there was no smell of dead rodent or other rotting animal. The downstairs shower room had a clear issue with damp – flaking paint/mould etc. Both bedside lamp bulbs in the 3rd bedroom had blown – this was reported in the breakages book way back in May 2018 – bought new bulbs and fitted. Patio set chair broken (back rest) (bbq Saturday evening) – could have caused an issue – again reported in breakages book in July 2018 Further comments only, The rear exterior of the property especially between fence and kitchen is very shabby and untidy – broken fence panel left lent against the wall. The parking area was over hung by an apple tree and windfall apple laying on the ground rotting attracting an enormous amount of wasps – we had to be very careful when loading and unloading the car. One light on cooker hood not functioning – not replaced. This definitely detracted from our stay in Norfolk and even though we have stayed in many cottages throughout England I can safely say this is the worst experience so far. This has therefore prompted my first ever complaint. We like to stay in older premises with character and understand some of the more quirkier issues with these properties however there should be a level of maintenance that ensures the basic amenities are up to standard.

    If the owners/caretakers repaired or removed the items reported as broken, checked lights worked and cleaned more thoroughly i could have scored comfort/equipment and cleanliness more highly.

    The place was lovely, however the cottage is listed and an older property, very pretty but could do with a bit of tlc. It definitely needs some updating.
