We found the location of the cottage good for visiting castles owned by Scottish National Trust, which our English National Trust membership gave us access to. We also visited the coast a few times. There was little choice of places to eat out, near by, in the evening. The courtyard outside of the cottage could have been made more attractive to sit out in. The kitchen was very well equiped.

For peace and tranquillity this property could not be beaten, being at least half a mile from the nearest road it was blissfully quiet. The period furnishings were also very much in keeping with this unique cottage. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. However there were some big buts; the beds and settees had seen better days and the bathroom was dreadful. The toilet seat had been incorrectly fitted so the seat would not stay up. Each time the toilet flush the whole plumbing system vibrated and made a dreadful noise. The sink was semi blocked and took ages to drain. The chains for both the sink and bath plugs were missing. The sink plug was attached to a boot lace. The bath was badly stained. If these issues were addressed this would be an amazing property that we would certainly return to many times however as it stands we will not be returning.

Really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful 'castle' in a quiet, remote rural setting. Everything you need for a self-catering stay from towels to cutlery and comfy beds to Wi-Fi!

Stayed for one week as family of 4 (teenage daughters). found the place very special with it being part of a real castle. very clean, well equipped, comfy beds, shops and supermarkets within 10min drive. Host Fiona very friendly and helpful. The heating system (Rayburn) needed some expert input once, apart from that... Overall: a definite recommendation - 9/10

We were never tired of driving into the courtyard of our very own castle - what a magnificent sight. One day there was even a piper rehearsing to lead the Clan Skene at the Edinburgh Tattoo! Our hostess and owner of the castle is a delight, as is her son Ruairidh - what a task the family has set itself to restore this magnificent ancient monument. The cottage is very well equipped. The only downside is that one has to go through one bedroom to get to the other but fine for a family. We loved it all!
