Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Adjoining the owners’ pub, this is an ideal base for a family to discover beaches, countryside and more.

Explore the many attractions that Kent has to offer, or relax with a drink in the owners’ local pub, which is conveniently next door, where customers can enjoy free Wi-Fi and the sun terrace.
The Shepherds Retreat is a semi-detached property linked to the owners’ pub, set in the picturesque village of Burmarsh, which being a mile from the sea across the fields, makes this an ideal base from which to explore the beach and countryside. Dymchurch hosts a 3 mile sandy beach and an amusement park, perfect for the young or young at heart.
During the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, smuggling was rife on the Marsh. Dymchurch is known for the fictional Dr Syn, created by the author Russel Thorndike, as the smuggler who posed as a respectable vicar in Dymchurch. Dymchurch even hosts a ‘Day of Syn’ every 2nd year to celebrate this.
Across the Marsh there are many lovely churches, and right on your doorstep is All Saints Church in Burmarsh. This is the lowest of the Marsh churches, being some 4m below sea level, and with a stunning Norman doorway. The flat terrain of the marshes and the winding lanes make this area excellent for cycling, and guests can store their bikes in the hallway. Explore the National Cycle Route 2, where you can travel to the Cinque Port town of Rye, or Folkestone.
The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch 15” narrow gauge light railway covers 13½ miles from Hythe, renowned for its antique shops, cafés, and of course the Military Canal, through to Dungeness, home of the RSPB nature reserve. Nature lovers should also visit the Romney Marsh Visitor Centre.
Port Lympe and Howletts Wild Animal Parks make for great days out. Bring your passport and hop on a ferry from Dover to Calais, or take the shuttle and indulge in a spot of lunch in Paris. Beach 1 mile. Shop 1½ miles. Pub and restaurant next door.

This is the second time we have stayed here, such a lovely place, the owners are lovely & leave you alone, but on hand if needed. The food in the pub they own is fatastic and good value.

Nice cottage next to pub, very pleasant community. Small town of course, but easy to get around to the villages and sites, beaches in the area. Well outfitted cottage, shower is basic, but works fine. We had a nice long bank holiday weekend. We left an iPad and the owner was very nice to let us know and send it to us!

The property itself was perfect. A little enclosed outside space would have been a bonus. The pub was lovely, very welcoming. Shame there is not a shop nearby.
