Shelduck Cottage is a fabulous stone built, detached cottage, which is tucked away on a quiet cobbled back street just a minutes’ walk from the centre of bustling Holmfirth. Spanning three floors and with beautiful furnishings and fittings, the property has retained masses of character and charm. Wonderful features such as exposed beams, stone work and a simply stunning bedroom, complete with 4 poster bed and wood burner, means this property makes a wonderful home-from-home, whatever the weather. The private, sheltered back garden complete with hot tub just enhance this further. Let the bubbles transport you to a world of relaxation. Relax with a glass of wine in one hand and an unfinished book in the other, and immerse yourself in this spectacular location.
Holmfirth itself has an abundance of shops, cafés, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs, and is even home to its very own vineyard which offers meals, tours and wine tasting events. A lovely cottage, well looked after and with everything you'd need. A lot of effort made by the owners and nice extras like the welcome hamper. The only tiny suggestion would be to have a hand towel for each guest as there was only one in each of the 2 bathrooms.

The owners blamed us for damage that we didn't do even in a room that we didnt use! We had an accident when a wooden duck fell when we opened the window. It seems because of this the owner became obsessed and gave me a list of problems that were untrue. Angela admitted she relied upon advice from her cleaner so could not factually prove any accusations. I feel insulted and deeply offended by this. We were met by the owner with her clip board. It took a good half hour to go through the list of thing's we could and couldn't do. This was OTT. We felt on edge the whole time we were there in case we got a spec of dirt anywhere. The cottage is beautiful but we were not able to relax so couldn't enjoy it. Avoid if you have kids as you will most definitely lose the safety deposit!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We totally refute the comments. On leaving, the guest said in a text message: "Thank you so much. We had a lovely relaxing break." This is clearly at odds with their review. There was considerable damage, but only the items that we had photographic evidence for were deducted from the guest’s deposit, the rest of the deposit was returned. We recognise that accidents happen. We kindly ask all of our guests to report all breakages, especially those that could be dangerous to future guests, particularly children. Health and safety and honesty are of paramount importance to us. We hope that future guests will read our reviews for a balanced review of our property.
