My husband's father was Manx and our son has always wanted to visit the island. This was his 40th birthday present, he was not disappointed. The house is right next to the coast with amazing views. There is no night pollution, but depending upon the weather flights to and from the airport can fly very close to the house. We were there for a week in April and were not inconvenienced by this. A member of the family has a severe reaction to gluten, and research prior to the trip indicated that access to gluten free meals could be an issue. We regularly ate out and staff in restaurants were well informed, made us feel welcome and our son had some of the best gluten free meals he has ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the house. It is very comfortable and provides all the facilities required for an enjoyable stay on the island. Small children would need to be carefully supervised due to the structure of the staircase.

This was our second visit - and it didn't disappoint. The location is stunning and the property itself is modern, spacious and comfortable. The contact from our host was not intrusive but made us feel very welcome. We will be back :-)

Sheerghlass is a wonderful property where no expense seems to have been spared in imaginatively converting an older building into an attractive modern residence which is roomy, very tastefully decorated and furnished, fully equipped and very comfortable to live in. It was absolutely spotless when we arrived. The upside-down nature of the conversion with the bedrooms and washing/toilet facilities downstairs and living accommodation upstairs takes full advantage of the cottage's wonderful location and there are superb views from the kitchen over the bay towards Port St Mary. It made it almost impossible to move away from the breakfast bar where the windows faced out over the bay. We found it really dramatic on a windy, stormy day with high tide, rough sea and the spray coming over the windows. The house has many windows making it light and airy and the main room downstairs had a number of patio doors which could be opened to bring in the fresh sea air. There are patio doors in the bedrooms too and it was lovely to lie in bed in the morning with the doors open listening to the sound of the sea and the various seabirds. The bedrooms are lovely and our bed was large and very comfortable with crisp white sheets and duvet covers. The washing/bathing/toilet facilities are good too with powerful showers and a bath if you want to bring your ducks. There was even a view of the sea from one of the loos. A real loo with a view! There was a generous welcome kit when we arrived with a warm welcome from Susan who showed us round the house and gave us a few very useful recommendations about the local area. There were slippers and big fluffy bathrobes and there were fine handwashes and moisturisers at every basin. Outside you could watch and hear the wonderful sights and sounds of curlews and see oyster catchers, herons, a range of gulls and various other birds. Take your binoculars and your bird-spotting book. The house is on a quiet narrow lane which is on the coastal path and a cycle route and is popular with dog walkers. There’s an atmospheric ship burial site a short walk away and it’s a relatively easy walk along the path to the attractive Castletown. You might guess from the review that we loved it there. It wasn’t cheap, it was an indulgence but it was well worth it and we thoroughly recommend it.
