What we love

Description

Sheen Heatherlands is a favourite with the local deer; it’ll soon be a favourite with you too. Such a beautiful area to explore too.

2 steps to entrance. All on ground floor: Sun porch. Dining room/kitchen. Living room. Double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Open fire in living room (initial fuel included). NSH and electricity by meter reading. Bed linen and towels included. Microwave. Washing machine. Patio with furniture. Shared garden. Parking. NB: There is a small stream in the garden.

Quietly nestled in peaceful, natural woodland, yet only half a mile from Kenmare town, this cosy ground floor holiday apartment enjoys an old world atmosphere, and adjoins the owner’s home. Guests have shared use of a beautiful landscaped garden boasting tame deer as frequent visitors. Flora, fauna and wildlife abound, from hedgerow plants and mountain goats to the otters, seals and spectacular birdlife which can be seen in the bay (wildlife sea cruises locally). This is the perfect base for discovering the beautiful scenery of both Kerry and West Cork. Within 20 miles are fascinating gardens of Dereen, Garinish Island and Muckross House in the Killarney National Park. Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, Kenmare offers a wonderful choice of great restaurants, along with quirky cafes, craft shops and traditional pubs. Golf, fishing, riding, sailing, and a good range of restaurants and friendly ‘musical’ pubs locally. Shops ½ mile.

Approximate distance to Kerry Airport is 58 km.

This is a perfectly acceptable holiday cottage. We even had a deer in the garden one morning! There is ample parking space and the facilities were generally what one would expect of a holiday cottage. The only slight drawback is availability of hot water to wash in first thing in the morning, as the water is heated by a manually switched immersion heater. If it is put on for some length of time last thing in the evening, the water is just about luke warm when getting out of bed. Clearly, the immersion can not be left on overnight owing to cost and the danger of the water overheating. Having a shower is not a problem as it is an electric one.
