Just 500 yards from the sandy beachJust 500 yards from a sandy beach

Set in the seaside village of Southerness, these spacious, detached holiday properties (refs 30501 and 26035) are just 500 yards from the sandy beach and make an ideal base for exploring south west Scotland. They stand 30 yards apart and are separated by a fence with an access gate. Both enjoy a sea view to the south and views of Criffel and the Galloway Hills to the north, and are ideal for family and friends to relax and unwind in. They each have a hot tub, and a games room to keep everyone occupied. Located on the spectacular Solway Coast near Dumfries and close to the stunning Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park, this is a popular area for walkers and cyclists with world class mountain biking at Dalbeattie 7 Stanes nearby. The area offers unspoilt villages, dramatic coastlines, sandy beaches, rocky coves, magnificent gardens, castles and ancient monuments to explore. Wildlife abounds and the RSPB nature reserve is just along the coast. A championship golf course, Southerness Golf Course, is just 500 yards away, with a further good selection of golf courses within Dumfries and Galloway. Other activities include fishing, riding and sailing. The small village of Southerness with its quaint lighthouse that stands on the Solway Firth is well worth a visit, and 3 miles away is the home of John Paul Jones (founder of the American Navy). The area of Dumfries and Galloway has a lot of border history and many historical attractions including castles and many connections to Robbie Burns. Sweetheart Abbey, Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens and Mabie Farm Park are all within easy reach. Beach 500 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards. Properties 30501 and 26035 can be booked together to accommodate up to 16 guests.

We had a great time on our holiday. The cottage was lovely with stacks of room. We prepared in advance for food shopping by arranging a supermarket delivery to arrive just after we did. This was a really important holiday for us due to health issue and we wanted to build some lovely memories which we did. We only left the cottage one day. We went into Dumfries. We walked to the beach and were lucky with the weather. Everything we needed was in the cottage . From hot tub, family board games, a private area to sit and enjoy the weather and a games room, pool was well used. If I had to have a moan, although it would not be necessary, it would be a few rugs to stop the echo of the wood floors and cushions on sofa's. When your small on those lovely sofas your feet dangle. We had a lovely time and would be happy to recommend it to anyone.

We rented this cottage as a family, 5 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs and there was plenty of room for all. Very large garden for kids and dogs to play and run around. The games room was fantastic and spent a lot of time in there. The hot tub was gorgeous and never seemed to loose it's heat, and was so relaxing. There is also plenty of board games and jigsaw available. Added bonus of sky tv, although would say that Wi-Fi signal was quite poor. Cottage was very large and spacious. Very clean and we'll equiped. The holiday park is just over the road where you can get nightly entertainment but is quite expensive. Lots of entertainment for kids - machines etc, again, can cost a small fortune. Owners are always on hand if needed, but gives plenty of privacy. Very helpful. All in all, had a great time and would recommend this cottage, and would return.

A tip for dog owners that this is a working sheep farm and your pets and children cannot be in the garden on their own. The sea view is interrupted by the disused caravans from a park dean site The cottage and its facilities are the best and the owner is lovely and helpful. Visit Portpatrick up the coast the place, people and food is wonderful

Had a fab week away for new year. House is lovely and very well equipped from games room to kitchen to huge hot tub. No tv in bedrooms for kids so take one or a gadget for them to watch. There is a cupboard full of games too. The owner lives close by but We never saw him the whole week . Huge driveway and parking for cars. Would highly recommend and we will definately return. Nothing to do in southerness in winter but We went walks and visited the Dumfries area. Very private and peaceful place to stay .

We really enjoyed our family holiday here, but the lower score we gave for comfort & equipment was actually only for equipment. Considering the house sleeps 8 people there really wasn't enough crockery, which is very unusual for holiday accommodation nowadays. For instance if we were serving a meal with a soup starter and a pudding - someone had to wash the bowls before we could serve the dessert!! Also 2 Pyrex casserole dishes just isn't enough serving dishes/bowls to allow for serving a meal at a dining table. Such a shame as it's not difficult to provide crockery and it meant the dishwasher had to run half empty after every meal, which just seems ridiculous???

The house was lovely - the gentleman who met us on arrival was lovely - the house itself is clean and tidy, but not really suitable for dogs due to the wood flooring throughout, which causes noise and also helps the dog hair to travel to those parts of the house where dogs are not permitted - causing additional mess which you can be charged for, despite paying a seriously inflated price per dog surcharge for cleaning due to taking dogs..............this really annoyed us - particularly when we were told this charge did not originate with the owner..........we always ensure we leave a holiday house clean and tidy, but have never been asked to pay for the dogs before.........but then to find out we still had to ensure we left no dog related evidence anyway or we would receive even more charges was just insulting! The bedrooms need new beds, and could also do with some re organisation to allow for storage, and reading - no bedside lamp on one room caused an issue - the bathroom shower would not turn off once turned on and the sofa's could probably do with replacing. Some of the bed linens were marked, outside lighting could be better and the gates at the entrance need work to allow for safe coming and going in windy weather. We never found the beach which was indicated to be on the doorstep and was a big selling point, it appears to be through a huge caravan park with no immediate or easy access for anyone staying at the address.
