Situated in a beautiful estate with a woodland area and beach, guests at Seabiscuit can enjoy a peaceful stroll around the grounds.

In the heart of the Rousdon Estate (one of the great Victorian estates in Britain and formerly a public school), Seabiscuit is ½ mile from the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline and the Dorset Coastal Path. This corner stable courtyard cottage adjacent to the mansion, is well presented and lovingly restored, and offers excellent accommodation. Stunning scenic walking can be enjoyed along the coast, as well as amongst the rolling hills on the many miles of local countryside footpaths. Guests have the freedom to explore the walks on this 350-acre estate and anyone with a taste of adventure can walk down the steep pathway to the estate’s private beach and nature reserve, spend time fossil hunting or simply relax in this wonderful location. Within easy driving, just 2½ miles away, is the popular seaside resort of Lyme Regis, famous for its role in the film ’The French Lieutenant’s Woman’, with its pretty Cobb, beach and shops. Popular for visits are the towns of Seaton, Sidmouth, Bridport and the quaint villages of Branscombe and Beer. Axminster has a sports complex offering swimming and various other facilities. There are also many attractions to visit and historic houses such as Forde Abbey and Gardens, and Loughwood Meeting House. Shop and hotel restaurant/bar ¼ mile.

I'm dropping location down to a 9 because while it's undeniably lovely it doesn't actually have beach access unless you consider rickety wooden steps down a cliff face with half of them missing access which is optimistic. It's gorgeous anyway though. Ditto for local amenities, the bakery is awesome but it's not a shop so if you need a shop you are going to have to drive to one.

Perfect location and cottage for chilled, relaxing break with family at Christmas. The Estate committee held a Carol Concert while we were there which was lovely and gave us the chance to see some of the main house buildings normally out of bounds. Cottage warm and well equipped, only thing missing was dishwasher tablets. Lots of wood provided for fire.

Just three of us and the dog occupied this house which was can accommodate seven people so lots to room spead out. The Rousdon Estate is beautiful. With Lyme Regis just three miles away and one of us being a keen fossil collector it was ideal. We had a fantastic time and we have already recommended it to various friends.

Spacious accommodation well appointed and containing lots of interesting artefacts and styles of furnishing. Setting in the Estate is special and views from the balcony of the sea and the sound of ducks etc . set it apart from most holiday locations - disappointing not to be able to access "private" beach but understand the health and safety considerations associated with land slips. Three bedrooms each with ensuite facilities great for larger parties.

We all , three generations, greatly enjoyed staying at Seabiscuit and exploring the local area. The cottage was ideal for all ages and everyone appreciated the space and facilities.
