Parts of the cottage were in need of refurbishment. Although most well presented some could have done with a deep clean.

    Response from:

Deep cleans are carried out on a regular basis. Sea Cottage is maintained in a traditional manner. We hope to see you here again soon.

house basic, comfortable, clean; lovely big well-equipped kitchen; sitting room cold (even in a heatwave it never got any sun so we mostly sat in the kitchen with the back door open); amazing steep garden - sea view from very top! street parking OK, usually a space nearby; 1 mile to Berwick but very pleasant walk.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your lovely comments, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay, in particular the garden and the walks surrounding Sea Cottage. The living room does face the North East so we understand it does not capture direct sun however we do provide alternate ways to heat the living room. There is a gas fire in the living room and heating as well. We hope to see you in the future.

Had a good time, but trouble getting in as the door entry code was incorrect and had to phone twice before the caretaker came to let us in. Also the rooms were cold as central heating was switched off. On the plus side we enjoyed the improvements in the garden.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am pleased to hear you had a good time at Sea Cottage. The Caretaker lives nearby and will always help as quickly as possible. The central heating is switched off from 1st May – 1st October, as advertised but is available. Please contact the caretaker for this. I am glad you appreciated the garden.

Mid terraced property. Lounge area quite dark even in broad daylight. Kitchen bright enough with a borrow light window into lounge. Too many notices of do and dont on walls for my liking. 2 mins to beach and plenty of local walks

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. The lounge has one window only as an extra window was taxed back in 1901 when the house was built. Today pale cream walls and various electric lights lighten the room. ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ are for guests comfort in order to avoid drain blockage and shower disorder. Lounge throws are cosy and protect delicate fabric on the sofa and armchair. ‘No Smoking’ is a nationwide requirement. I am happy you appreciated the nearby beach and country walks.

We were using the cottage as a base for seeing family over Christmas, so it was fine for that purpose on the whole, as we were out a lot. If we'd booked it without having anyone nearby it would not have been up to scratch at all. We came straight from work on the Friday to be met with a note staying the washing machine had not been fitted. This was one of the prime reasons we'd booked this cottage, as we knew we'd have laundry to do over Christmas. We were fortunate that we could do it at our family's house, but it was still frustrating having to lug it all over there. As a former landlady myself, in my mind, if you know you have customers staying, getting the facilities in order ought to be a priority, especially if it's specifically listed on the site. The cottage was simple and dated, but clean and tidy, so in that sense it was fine. The heating had been left on for our arrival, which we did appreciate! Although there isn't much there, the listing doesn't claim otherwise, so it is fairly represented on the site generally. Having said that, the bathroom is downstairs which it does not mention, and although that's not the biggest of deals, it was annoying in the night having to navigate the fairly steep stairs in a groggy stupor! Equally, the 'shower' is a tube attached to the bath taps, which IS fixed overhead and has a good temperature, but it's not brilliant pressure as a result. Essentially, it's fine to keep clean, but not the best for a relaxing shower. We didn't come to watch tv, so it didn't hugely bother us that there is a very limited range of channels, but it was pretty frustrating that the 'two-seater' sofa was only just big enough for us to both sit on, and that was bolt upright with no room for actually cuddling in or relaxing together, so in the end it was more comfortable to sit separately. If you're not bothered about cuddling your partner, it's fine, it was just annoying for us! The double bed was pretty hard so not the best night's sleep, but the room had good storage and a nice dressing table. It's in a good location, minutes from the beach, and there is a good amount of information on things to do locally. It's probably ok value for money when you compare it to theirs in the area, but if we'd paid any more I'd have asked for a refund because of reasons outlined above. The fact you have to pay in full beforehand means there's no chance to see what you're paying for until you're there. It's warm enough, and it is clean, it's just really not up to scratch for comfort and relaxation.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review we are so glad you enjoyed the location. The property is in keeping with the period of the property so a more traditional look. Also due to the time of year we had purchased a new washing machine, but a new part was needed to install this and couldn’t pick this up until after Christmas, this is now fully installed. Also it does state in the property description the bathroom is on the ground floor also the shower over the bath. The mattress is personal preference for guests, also the sofa is a 2 seater sofa. We have standard freeview on the TV.
