The perfect choice for a family seaside holiday or couples needing a relaxing escape at any time of year. Salty Blue is tucked away on a small street in the pretty little North Devon fishing village of Appledore. Refurbished in 2018 this lovely terraced cottage has a sunny rear garden which is ideal for an al fresco supper and just a short stroll to the quayside where you can watch the fishing boats come in and the yachts sailing across the estuary.
Appledore is one of the oldest and prettiest villages in North Devon, with it’s myriad of narrow streets, quaint cottages, pubs, restaurants, craft shops, art galleries and the bustling quayside, there really is something to please everyone.
Nearby Bideford has restaurants and town amenities along with boat trips to Lundy Island. Royal Horticultural Show, Rosemoor Gardens, Docton Mill and Hartland Abbey are well worth a visit. You can take the ferry or drive round to Instow on the opposite side of the estuary with its sandy beach, bars and restaurants and the wide golden sandy beaches of Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! popular with surfers, are just 2 miles away. Exmoor, Clovelly and Hartland Quay are close by and the area is a must for water sports, sailing enthusiasts and fishermen, whilst walkers and cyclists will enjoy the famous Tarka Trail which passes close by. Young and old will enjoy crabbing off the quay and golf and riding is available locally. There is a lovely estuary beach at low tide just 500 yards away. For family fun The Big Sheep, The Milky Way Adventure Park and North Devon Wakepark for water sports are close by. Beach 2¼ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

Salty Blue is a lovely little cottage that has been thoughtfully modernised. A nice touch was the welcome goodies. Despite its size everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided. Shame the bathroom is downstairs but having said that it was fresh and clean and the bath/shower was good. The stairs down are rather steep but ok if you're sober! The only tiny criticism would be the small sofas in the lounge, just not big enough to stretch out on! Location is ideal for the shops/restaurants etc. Can recommend the Flame factory and the Beaver Inn for food. Parking in the public car park was fine, only a short walk away and only £16 for the week! Appledore is a delightful place and there are some excellent dog friendly walks in the area.

Beautiful, cosy cottage, very well equipped and tastefully renovated. Lovely setting - the only drawback is you can't get a car up the lane to unload - you have to park a street away and walk your bags to the cottage. Fine for us, but possibly a problem if you have any mobility issues / small children to hang on to. We will definitely revisit. The owner is very helpful and friendly and left us prosseco and chocolates for our NYE stay. Appledore is a delightful place as is Instow across the water. Lovely pubs and eateries and a great deli. Good spot to visit other areas in North Devon.
