Some positives - plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. Pleasant position. Nice little patio area with umbrella. Good parking and provision of entertainment (DVDs, books etc) although TV needs updating. Disappointing consumables - toilet rolls, hand soap, washing up liquid - no kitchen roll, oven gloves or small sharp knife. Kitchen cabinet door was not rehung - still in the cupboard under the stairs. Patio door extremely difficult to lock and a large crack in the lounge ceiling. No welcome pack or sign of anyone to welcome us. Biggest issue was lack of wifi. As other adjacent properties had access it is difficult to see why it wasn't feasible to instal wifi at the Gatekeeper. Not up to usual four star standard - hence low rating of value for money.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review, and glad that in most features Gatekeeper was a pleasant, clean and well equipped cottage. Though not sure where the small sharp knives have gone. On the two specifics you mention: I have enquired regarding the kitchen cabinet door and understand that it was broken by a previous guest and no fitter could be in to repair it soon enough, though it should now be repaired and functioning correctly. Very sorry it was not ready for your visit. As a group of cottages we are working on getting Wifi and at present we are waiting for a new connection that should provide a workable speed. Generally people with Vodaphone and G4 are able to connect well and this would be what was in adjacent properties, but all cottages are waiting for a speed worth offering and it will then be worth upgrading the TV to include features needing internet. As a self catering cottage we regularly review what is included, and while new toilet rolls are always provided we do not regularly provide the other consumables mentioned, though there is usually some of each remaining from previous guests. Also with a welcome pack we have found that individuals have different views on what should be included, white or brown bread, full or fully skimmed milk etc, and with uncertain travel times and delays the freedom of arrival time is appreciated rather than a shorter slot when someone can be present, even though a personal welcome can be very pleasant and beneficial in other ways. As I say we regularly reconsider these details and your comments will be included in our deliberations. We would love to see you back at Gatekeeper sometime.

Kitchen cupboards kept falling off . It was a problem other people had commented on. Garden furniture needed updating. On the whole it was a beautiful cottage with an amazing view.

Fantastic place to stay - wildlife close up and fascinating. Very close to beaches also. Every thing I needed to hand. Two minor grumbles - the neighbours were noisy over the first weekend and a kitchen cupboard collapsed and I was unable to contact owners. No phone number for housekeeper either - fortunately it did not inconvenience me and I met the housekeeper during the week so was able to report it. Small things and overall the holiday was amazing.

We had a lovely time in this cottage. It’s pretty compact but perfect with a toddler as they have room to move and play but can’t get into anything. Very good heating (we were there in Feb) and the shower was great! Lovely place to base yourself and explore the area.

It was great but bath water takes a while to get hot again. I had a bath and then couldn’t bath kids until next day, husband had no bath! As we were only there 2 nights this kind of sucked. However a nice place in a serene setting, there was no WiFi or phone reception so we had real family time playing board games & watching movies on the DVD player. We made a trip to Horsey Gap for the seals, and had lunch at Poppylands... freezing day but totally worth it. Kids of 8 and 11 had fun! We loved it. No shops nearby, nearest is a Tesco... not the location if you want a village shops kind of experience though.

A clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage in well kept grounds in a quiet location with a pretty view of the lake from the lounge. We did get mobile and 4G reception by placing phone on lounge windowsill. A must is a visit to Horsey Gap . There were a large number of seals and some pups on the beach when we visited in September.
