This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This Grade II listed property has plenty of original features, and is within easy reach of Royal Tunbridge Wells and its shops and restaurants.

Once an old hall house, this beautifully renovated, detached cottage retains many original beams and features, some of which date back to the 1500’s. It is a Grade II listed property which lies within the owners’ grounds, and enjoys a large fenced garden and a wild flower gareden which is surrounded by countryside. Brenchley lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are walks from the doorstep across the fields and apple orchards to country pubs which serve good food.
It is ideally placed for visiting the plethora of historic houses and castles Kent and Sussex has to offer, including Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle and Knowle House to name a few. Gardens are in abundance, such as the ones at Sissinghurst and Scotney. At Bewl Water, visitors can hire bikes and cycle around the reservoir, which is the largest stretch of open water in the south east.
Royal Tunbridge Wells is just a short drive away, where you can stroll amongst the colonnades on The Pantiles. Seek out the Kent and East Sussex vintage steam railway for a chug through the countryside or enjoy a wine tour at Biddenden Vineyard. 200 years ago, the stage coach went from Brenchley to London three times a week, now you can hop on a train from Paddock Wood or Tunbridge Wells and head to the capital for further sightseeing opportunities. Fishing is also available nearby. Beach 23 miles. Shop and restaurant 2½ miles, pub 2 miles.

A great cottage in the middle of nowhere - which is a good thing for us! Stayed with our (reactive) dog, so having an enclosed garden is really important for us and she loved it. Served as a great base for a few days walking in the local area. Was a 10 min drive to local shops that we could see (there may have been closer though). The cottage itself is really spacious for two people and had everything we needed. Only way to improve for us would be to provide some more personal info on the local area (walks, pubs, shops etc) - as there were plenty of info leaflets for attractions, but there wasn't anything about what was on the doorstep. All-in-all, a great stay and we would definitely consider returning.

Very well equipped and comfortable grade II listed building on two floors. Ideal for local car touring and walking is possible. We found it perfect as couple with small dog and totally secure large, mainly grass garden. Nearest shop (e.g. for pint of milk on Sunday) was at Paddock Wood, about 5 miles away.) The limitation of the listed building comfort is that en-suite isn't available so nocturnal journeys needed to go downstairs for facilities. If walking, Cuckoo lane is single track with few cars leading to Tong lane which has faster traffic as it is slightly wider but not recommended as there are no safe footpaths. There is a field gate about 150 yards at end of Cuckoo lane which allows walking just inside orchard boundary to connect with public footways. Dogs need to be kept on lead due local sheep worrying issues.

This place is a little gem, it was very clean and the bed was very spacious and the surrounding area was lovely. We saw some lovely sun sets. It is very quiet even when the windows are open, the owner's daughter in law gave us the tour of the cottage but when the owner returned she came and introduced herself. We are definitely booking next year just working out when.

We had a lovely few days at this immaculate cottage. Very peaceful and relaxing with a lovely enclosed garden area which our puppy very much enjoyed running around in. We will return soon.

Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings. Close to many National Trust houses and a visit to Hever Castle a must. We received a warm welcome and will certainly recommend it to our friends and family. Very dog friendly with a large enclosed garden and look forward to returning in the future.

We had an absolute lovely time at the cottage. A real comfort from home and the dog extremely enjoyed himself. Everything was so beautifully kept, to a wonderful standard and clean. Will most definitely be returning.
