This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This charming stone cottage is perfectly placed for exploring this lovely part of the High Peak.

This attractive, terraced stone cottage is set in a quiet corner on the edge of Chapel-en-le-Frith, outside the pretty village of Combs, which appeals to walkers and has a lovely pub/restaurant. Located on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the cottage is warm, welcoming and deceptively spacious, and is perfectly placed for exploring this beautiful part of the High Peak. Traditionally furnished with a homely feel, this charming cottage has character beams and a cosy living room, perfect for relaxing in, whilst the front bedroom has a stunning view over Combs Reservoir. Outside, is a quiet, secluded courtyard area overlooking uninterrupted views of open countryside, where you can sit and enjoy the sun.
Chapel-en-le-Frith means ‘Chapel in the Forest’, the ‘Chapel’ being the old Norman church which still stands in the market square with its original stocks. The forest has been replaced over the years by lovely old stone cottages. Market day is still Thursday, but is no longer a cattle market! The market place was filmed in the BBC drama ‘The Village’, where the Kings Arms featured as the old pub.
The Peak District is a paradise for walkers, cyclists and climbers, with fantastic walks and cycle trails from the doorstep; Rose Cottage is within 5 minutes’ drive of Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve, close to Edale and Hope Valley. For golfers, Chapel-en-le-Frith has a beautiful 18-hole golf course less than a 10-minute walk away. Nearby attractions include Chatsworth House and Estate; Castleton with its Blue John Mines and underground caverns accessible by boat; famous Bakewell; Ladybower Reservoir, and Buxton Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. Children will love the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, and the Tissington and Monsal Trails which are easy, level paths along old railway tracks for walking or cycling (bike hire is available). Public transport is very accessible from the property, with a bus stop placed directly opposite the front of the house; it is also on the Buxton-Manchester Airport route. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Just spent a lovely weekend at Rose Cottage. Highly recommend the Hanging Gate Pub which is just a 5 minute walk away. Rose Cottage is a lovely property with nice views and a good base for visiting places like Chesterfield, Matlock and Bakewell, which is a 'must visit' (30 minute drive). We will definitely return. Thank you.

Had the most amazing weekend, such a beautiful cottage, really needed a quiet break away and that’s exactly what we had. Thank you so much and can’t wait to book again

Lovely cottage. Well equipped and warm. Road noise was a problem, and the lack of suitable parking should be made clear when advertising. But overall, good value for money

Thankyou for a really nice last minute getaway the peak district is a lovely place....this was the first time we have ever taken our dog with us and it was amazing the cottage has everything you could want.a very luxury feel even down to the drinking glasses!my only issue would have been the bed in the main bedroom. would have preferred it to be kingsize/superking size but I am 6ft5 and is always an issue when going places to stay over not the cottages fault....more mine but I think If you ever upgrade do it to a king size or superking it would warrant a few more ££££s per stay but totally worth it for me personally.the garden is also lovely to sit in and relax.the parking could of been an issue....I was going to bring 2 cars because we were bringing the dog and the kids bikes etc and had seen on the reviews about there being enough parking for 2 cars in front of the cottage..we parked directly infront of our cottage and on the night had a neighbour knocking on the door telling us that was her spot and we would have to move forward next time we went out.she told us our parking is just on the concrete next to the posts wich made it more difficult to get out and in after we were blocked in by the neighbour I'm just glad we didn't bring the 2 cars as one review says you can park in a lay by down the road but while we were there that lay by was taken up by 3 cars someone local was could of been a big issue as no parking anywhere for possibly a mile each way of the cottage.

An ideal cottage for a short stay. Well appointed and very cosy. Good location for the High Peak area but it is located on a busy road (which we soon got used to). Overall an excellent place to stay.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay, the road the property is situated on can unfortunately be quite busy, but the property is well insulated against noise and we like to think the view over the reservoir more than makes up for it.

We liked the cottage and it had everything we needed. For us parking was an issue as the high kerb on the pavement opposite the cottage was difficult to negotiate and full of ruts. There were no instructions about where it was permissible to park.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry parking was an issue; there is usually space opposite the cottage available to park on with tarmacked space to fit up to two vehicles. There are also lay-bys to park in within a 5 minute walk from the property. We have amended the property description to hopefully make this parking information clearer in future.

A small group of us booked the cottage for the weekend as we were doing a charity trek in the Peaks. The cottage was perfect for us, rooms were really clean and decor and furnishings were all beautiful, plus a lovely garden to use as well. One small recommendation would be to provide some kitchen/washing up equipment (e.g small sponges/j cloths for washing up/wiping worktops etc.). Also some small toiletries would have been nice in case they were needed - especially as I forgot to take my shampoo!

    Response from:

Repsonse on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. We are now providing two dispensers of hand & body wash and hand & body lotion in the bathroom. A bottle of fairy washing liquid and wash cloth is now also provided in the kitchen. We hope to welcome you back to Rose Cottage again in the future.
