We were welcomed into the Cottage by Jayne and Darren, who did a quick handover. They were very friendly and let us know we could contact them at anytime if we needed help or information. There was a welcome pack of bread, butter, breakfast, biscuits, coffee pods and milk. All you needed to get through your first morning or two. There was also additional tea, coffee and sugar available for a week. We also found salt, pepper and oil in a cupboard. There is a large fridge freezer which is adequate for a family of four for a week. The cottage looked clean, it was beautifully decorated and the accessories made it feel homely without feeling you were in someone else's home. There are a few areas that aren't finished to the high standard that you initially feel when you first step into the cottage. The kitchen is well equipped and has a gas range, electric oven, and a combi microwave oven. The main bedroom is a comfortable size with a king size bed which was very comfortable. To give some perspective, I live in a quite village where there is rarely any car noise during the day or night. The cottages main bedroom borders the road, you can only hear this road from this bedroom, but we were not kept awake by any noises along this road. However, there was one morning at 5am when I was woken by brakes being applied on a van, and it's back roller door bouncing up and down - I did nearly have a heart attack - my husband didn't even stir. There is also a train line close to the property. The trains travel fast, and create a low hum which last seconds. I don't think any trains run through Saltford from 11pm until 5am. But I don't think the trains would keep anyone awake, unless you already have trouble sleeping. We visited the cottage when the second 'beast from the east' hit. We accepted it was cold in the cottage because of the negative figures outside. Jayne also checked up on us to make sure we had heating and if we needed anything from the shops. Once it started to warm up we realised that every room other than the living room (when all living room doors were closed) were cold. We had been given instructions on using the heating, but we couldn't get the rest of the cottage over 18, were as I prefer a toasty 22 (during the cold snap the heating hit 16). Because of the cold we couldn't use the conservatory as that was freezing. There is a log burner in the living room but we chose not to use it and put more clothes on. The main bathroom was like ice the entire holiday, towards the end of the week we realised the vent was open to let steam out, by the last day when I was hit by a gust of wind, I realised the sky light was probably open and why we had been so cold. The shower and tap water was warm, but probably felt colder because of the room temp. We were aware we could ask for Jayne or Darren's help at anytime, but we preferred not to. This is an excellent location to stay in if you like walking. There is the Bristol and Bath Railway path, it's around 4 miles into Bath and 12 miles into Bristol. We enjoyed walking into Bath, and headed towards Bristol to the Avon Valley Steam Railway where we found a lovely railway cafe, and Webb's where you can hire bikes. There is a Waitrose about 5 minutes up the road, and you can walk to a Tesco Express, 2 pubs, cafe and a few restaurants. The cottage is overlooked by neighbouring houses and boats. Negatives: There are diffusers in most rooms. We ended up putting all of them in the spare bedroom as it was a bit over whelming. The photos on this site show an exercise bike, which is in the cottage but within a locked room which you can't access. There was nothing in the info pack to suggest it could be used, so I'm not sure why it's shown. Recommendation: I would recommend this beautiful cottage to anyone who wants a relaxing week away from home, or who enjoy long walks along rivers and countryside. It's also easy to drive into Bristol, and far cheaper to use long stay parking, then pay out for two plus people on the park & ride scheme. It's a great location for bird watching and wildlife enthusiasts.

Our stay at Riverview was simply delightful, the cottage is absolutely gorgeous. It feels like home from the moment you walk in. We used it as our base for visiting both Bristol and Bath (for the Christmas market) and it is perfectly located for both. The village itself hosts a great pub, serving excellent food so you don't even need to venture far. Jayne and Darren were wonderful hosts and could not do enough for us. We will most definitely be returning.
