The location is great. The neighbors are friendly. The cottage is comfortable, the kitchen bright and airy. The bed linens were crisp and fresh. The small garden provides a sense of privacy and a wonderful place to sit in the sun and watch the rabbits in the grass. But there are a few things that could stand some attention: Only one small fry pan in the kitchen. The queen bed in the downstairs bedroom needs a mattress that has seen fewer years of use. The kitchen drain was plugged when we arrived and remained so for the week of our stay. Because of this the dishwasher could not be used, and only a trickle of water could enter the sink before it backed up out of the drain. Washing up after meals was less pleasant than it normally is. I'm sure that this is all fixed by now, but it detracted a bit from our enjoyment of the facilities. We would stay here again because the location is very good and the house is comfortable on the whole, but it seems a bit overpriced . This last observation is based on several years of renting holiday homes in [marvelous]Scotland, so it is not an off-the-cuff remark.

Although the cottage was a 'dated', it was lovely and clean and well equipped but a new oven and hob is a must as it takes ages to warm up. A downstairs toilet would be an asset to this property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Awkward lock in front door. Central heating not easy to control. Few explanations in the house. Lovely position and plenty of fuel for open fire.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you very much for drawing attention to problems with the central heating and the front door. I can confirm that the central heating has been checked by a specialist engineer and all problems have been resolved. I can also confirm that the front door has been checked and all is now working efficiently.

We stayed for a week. 4 adults, 2kids, 3 dogs. Plenty of space and nice and warm. Great for getting out and about. We would book this cottage again.

Lovely old cottage in fantastic location. Comfortable and cosy, ideal for getting away from it all. The dogs were delighted when they realised they were back at Riverside Cottage. Hope to be back again soon.

Riverside Cottage could be stunning. However it is in desperate need of a deep clean and updating. It is in a great and beautiful location but sadly that does not make up for the state of the property.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner-I am sorry you did not appreciate the traditional character of the cottage, it is deliberately furnished this way for a reason and the style can be clearly seen from the photographs on the site. Whilst recognising that consciously furnishing it in an old fashioned style does not meet all tastes, many other clients are extremely satisfied, as can be read by the review immediately prior. Cleanliness is extremely important to us and whilst the cottage is furnished to suit a traditional cottage in a fishing village, it is also very up to date where necessary and clean. Again, I am sorry it was not to your taste.

This is a lovely, cosy cottage, very rustic and old fashioned but so comfortable and clean. It's a stones throw from the beautiful golden beach and sand dunes where you can spot the odd dolphin jukping near the beach, it also has a great inlet for kayaks, paddling and crab fishing. The area is quite low key with shops and restaurants within walking distance and the best ice creams we have ever had! Although the town of Elgin is only a 10 minute drive away if you need it? The cottage could do with a little bit of an update and it only has one bathroom which can be frustrating when there are 6 of you queueing lol but it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of the place at all. This was our 2nd time here and we plan to come back to the area again as it is such a lovely place to be and relax even when the jets are flying over us from the neighbouring RAF base! We can recommend the beach bar further along the beach in Lossiemouth for good food and a friendly atmosphere at a reasonable price.

We love Lossiemouth and if it wasn't for the location and we were out most of the time I don't think we would have stayed the full two weeks. Bath was not clean. We had to buy a baby bath to bath my eleventh month old and a bath mat so we could stand in it to have a shower. They ask for you to hoover your pet hairs but they have two hoovers in the cottage and both don't even work! Door does not unlock or lock easily and as it is the only fire exit is a potential risk! definitely not worth the money. We will definitely be back to Lossiemouth but certainly not to Riverside Cottage!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments, I am sorry you did not appreciate your stay in the cottage but I am happy that you love the location. I accept that the cottage does not please everyone, as it is old and is furnished accordingly to provide a traditional feel. However, cleanliness is of paramount importance to us and the cottage is always thoroughly cleaned after use. I am not sure what you mean by the bath not being clean? The bath is cast iron and enamel covered and not plastic, perhaps some prefer plastic. There is always a clean non slip bath mat in the bath for safety reasons. The caretaker lives next door and perhaps she should have been contacted if you could not work the vacuum cleaner. The property does have one entrance, as does nearly all the other traditional cottages in the village, but the property has been checked and complies with all modern fire safety regulations. Again, I am sorry you were not satisfied and trust that you find accommodation more to your liking the next time you return, thankfully, most clients are extremely happy with the cottage and many are regular returnees.
