River Cottage is a beautiful, Grade II listed, 18th-century terraced house, located on one of Lancashire’s oldest, yet best preserved cobbled streets in the heart of Croston.
Set over three floors and fully renovated in 2019, the cottage is warm, cosy and full of character, and benefits from an enclosed south facing garden to the rear backing onto the River Yarrow. A short distance from the cottage is a cobbled packhorse bridge dating back to the 15th century, which crosses the river. River Cottage is located in a beautiful conservation area, an ideal spot for long walks.
Located between Chorley and Southport, Croston really is a picture postcard village, being one of Lancashire’s most frequently photographed villages, and offers a good selection of local food and drink establishments, all within easy walking distance of the property. Renowned for its community spirit, several events are held here across the year including the Christmas Fair. There is also an abundance of surrounding countryside to explore. Croston railway station is just a 10 minute walk away and offers services to Preston, Ormskirk and Blackpool. Further afield is Martin Mere nature reserve, the classic Victorian seaside town of Southport and even the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. Beach 14 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Have just had the most wonderful romantic relaxing stay in River Cottage. I cannot recommend this beautiful cottage enough. The property retains a quaint old world feel whilst offering all the mod cons that make life easy. The front door of the cottage opens on to an extremely picturesque street with a river running behind the back garden. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and the welcome pack was out of this world. It’s a stone throw away from the local pub situated over the road where it’s very easy to while away a couple of hours while the very friendly staff serve the most delicious food and drinks. But returning to this wonderful cottage at the end of the day banking up the fire and enjoying the excellent facilities, sky tv, games, records or books has made this much needed break one we will not forget and hopefully we will return.

A fantastic cottage with exceptional hosts Kenny & Lisa. Good location with all the amenities close at hand. A welcome package of groceries and a bottle of wine was very well received and a great touch. Would recommend this cottage to anybody. We will be back a some time during our travels from Isle of Man. Cheers John&Shirley
