Description

With a games room, 12-seater cinema room and 5-acre grounds, this Grade II listed cottage has plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

This smart, Grade II listed cottage, converted from old stables, is situated 400 yards from the pub in Highweek and serenely set in the owner’s 5-acre grounds of 16th-century Ringslade House. A barn separates the cottage from the house. The interior is very smart and stylish with flagstone floors downstairs, whilst outside to the front is a large, rabbit-grazed lawn and to the rear is an enclosed courtyard with a gate leading to a meadow, which is shaded by old apple trees. There is also a fire pit with log seating and an unfenced wildlife pond. From the meadow, there is access to a games room (unheated) with a half-size table tennis and pool table, table football and darts, as well as use of a 12-seater cinema room with Blu-ray player.
Highweek is a hilltop village about a mile outside the market town of Newton Abbot, with its leisure centre, racecourse and mainline railway. Beaches can be found 7 miles away at Shaldon or Teignmouth, or visit the seaside resort of Torquay, where boat trips can be taken to the fishing port of Brixham or Dartmouth. Exeter, with its fantastic cathedral is a 30-minute drive, whilst Plymouth, with its aquarium, The Hoe and Barbican is only 35 minutes’ away. For family fun, visit Paignton with its zoo, steam railway and sandy beaches. The attractive town of Totnes, situated on the River Dart, is also worth a visit and has a castle, shops and river cruises.
Dartmoor National Park, with its rocky tors and wild ponies, is only 6 miles away and offers walks, horse riding, fishing, cycling, falconry and golf. Within a few miles of Ringslade Barn are the picturesque villages of Chagford and Moretenhampstead, with their historic inns, excellent pubs, tea rooms, curiosity shops, tennis courts and the Miniature Pony Centre. National Trust properties in the area include Compton and Berry Pomeroy castles, and Greenway, Agatha Christie’s summer home. Further afield, within a 40-minute drive, enjoy amazing walks along the Jurassic Coastal Path and take in places such as Lyme Regis, Branscombe and Sidmouth. Beach 7 miles. Shop ¾ mile, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

This is the second time we've stayed here. The owners are very friendly and very accommodating. Lovely touch to have fresh scones, clotted cream and jam on arrival. There was also milk, tea and fresh coffee available. Great place to stay and would definitely recommend it.
