Adjacent to the owners’ cottage, it is a delightful detached holiday home for four to enjoy many places of interest within easy driving: World Heritage Jurassic Coast, Lulworth Cove; seaside resorts Weymouth, West Bay, Chesil beach, Lyme Regis; Yeovilton Air/Haynes Motor Museums; Cerne Abbas Giant, legendary King Arthur’s Camelot, Glastonbury Tor and Wells Cathedral. Shops 2 miles, pubs serving food 1 mile.

    This is a lovely property and generally we enjoyed our stay, but there were a number of things we felt others should be aware of before booking that are not made clear in the property description or at the time of booking. We were told on arrival that we could not use the wood burning stove at the moment because the flue was blocked, but we checked it with a lighted taper and it drew perfectly. It looked as though it hadn’t been used for some time, and a comment in the visitor book from 2012 observes “disappointed that fire not working”. The stove was one of the main reasons we chose this property and we were extremely disappointed. So, if this is important to you, check it has been fixed before booking. We were not given a key to the utility room even when we asked. The owners unlocked it for us on request so we could use the washing machine and tumble dryer, but they are not always around when you want access. The boiler controls for the central heating are in the locked utility room so you can’t turn the heating on outside of the pre-set times (6.00am to 10am and 4pm to 10 pm as I recall). I had to ask for the heating to be turned on during the day when it was snowing outside! To be fair, it was then left on constant for the rest of our stay, so we could control it with the thermostat, but you do not have control – you have to ask. If it’s not on constant and you decide to stay up after 10pm, you’ll have to put some jumpers on. Other reviews have said the property was clean, but we found lots of dead bugs and thick, dusty cobwebs that had obviously been there for some time. Only one parking space is formally allocated to the property and though a second car can be accommodated it makes turning impossible when the owners have both their cars parked on the gravel so you have to reverse out of the narrow driveway. The kitchen needs more equipment. There are generally only 4 each of crockery and cutlery items, 1 frying pan and 3 saucepans plus some ovenware. The dishwasher becomes redundant as you have to wash things up for the next meal before it can be filled. Previous guests have mentioned this in numerous visitor book entries but nothing has been done. If you plan a culinary holiday, bring some of your own equipment. I raised all these issues with our booking company on our return. If you experience any of the same problems please do the same, as well as using these reviews to help out future guests.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. The recent flue problem has now been fixed, and we have checked the property inventory for the kitchen and that is now fully equipped. The heating is usually set to winter / summer timings, but if customers require extra heating, they only have to ask, and this can be altered.
