Description

This spacious, picturesque, thatched cottage is nestled on the edge of the stunning Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This quintessential Grade II listed thatched cottage is nestled on the edge of the Quantock Hills, in the pretty little village of West Bagborough, just 2 miles from Bishops Lydeard. Richards Cottage is a cosy family home, perfect for a large family or a group of friends looking for a totally quiet and peaceful location to relax. The south facing garden has a lovely large patio terrace with French doors leading back into the large living room and ground floor bedroom. As well as the family living room, there is a snug with a large wood burner for those cosy nights in. The kitchen has hand built wooden units and a breakfast area which leads out into a spacious utility room/boot room with a walk-in wet room. This house would suit a multi-generational family as there is a ground floor bedroom, ideal for grandparents and also a separate, first floor bedroom, away from the other bedrooms, at the far end of the house which may be helpful if you have a young baby. There is plenty of parking on site and the local pub is just a short walk down hill to the village. Beach 10 miles. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub ¼ mile.

If you want peace, isolation and relaxation, Richards Cottage will provide all of that. We were looking for a property to cater for a family to celebrate an 80th birthday so were not worried about local amenities or attractions as the plan was to spend three days at the house. There is another house at the bottom of the garden which was nearer than the photos suggested however the views from the cottage are wonderful and we enjoyed beautiful sunsets. There are no local shops to walk to so we ordered shopping on-line to be delivered to the house on arrival which worked perfectly. The complimentary farmhouse food and provisions were lovely and we enjoyed them for breakfast. Papers were delivered each day by the owner which was a nice touch. Beds and bedding were very comfortable. The attic bedroom off the kitchen is really only suitable for children with low ceilings and 2 mattresses on the floor but we managed with the older teenage boys in there! Only minor grumble is that we could not find any BBQ implements anywhere so had to improvise and the umbrella on the patio had seen better days. Overall we loved the cottage and it was perfect for a weekend family getaway.

An absolutely fantastic Christmas break with four generations of family. Beautiful warm and cosy cottage in a lovely rural position. Fantastic views. Very peaceful. Would definitely book again.
